Medical Marijuana PanelOn November 4, 2008, Michigan voters approved the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act, providing protections for the use of medical marijuana in the state. As the law has taken effect, issues have arisen about how the law is implemented.

Medical Marijuana: Policy and Practice    
What is the best policy and practice when it comes to addressing the needs of patients and the requirements of good medical practice?

Our moderator for the evening is Dr. Randall Forsch, MD. Dr. Forsch is Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan, and Service Chief at Chelsea Community Hospital's Inpatient Service.  
 
Panelists
Dr. Donald R. Vereen, the Director of Community Academic Engagement at the Prevention Research Center of the University of Michigan School of Public Health, is also former Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy during the Clinton Administration.

Dr. Edward Washabaugh MD, FIPP is a state expert in the diagnosis and treatment of both chronic pain and acute pain disorders. Dr. Washabaugh has signed medical marijuana cards, and has experience treating patients who use marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Medical Marijuana: The Law and Enforcement
What should people and municipalities do to follow the law correctly? What types of infractions are police seeing? What crimes are being prosecuted? Our panel of experts will explain. Our moderator for the evening is Dr. Randall Forsch, MD. Panelists
Brian L. Mackie is the prosecuting attorney for Washtenaw County, responsible for all felonies and misdemeanors charged under state law. He has experience with cases relating to marijuana trafficking and usage in Michigan.

Eric Misterovich is from the Newburg Law office in St. Joseph, and works with small businesses, entrepreneurs and criminal defendants. He also assists townships, cities and villages in creating effective land use policies to address the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act (MMMA).

Rae Ramsdell is Licensing Manager at the Bureau of Health Professions at the Department of Community Health in the state of Michigan. She was instrumental in the implementation of the Medical Marijuana Law
