Demolition Derby Car Rides onto Library Lawn  

 

 

Demolition Derby CarStop by the library Thursday, August 11 to see a demolition derby car on the library lawn. We are sponsoring a derby car for this year's Chelsea Community Fair, driven by Kim Potocki, winner of the 2006 and 2008 Feature Demo Derby! Kids will meet on the library lawn at 2pm on Thursday, August 18 to help paint the car. To the left are photos of the car before Kim started working on it. Come see what it looks like now and check back next week to see what it will look like after we paint it! Kids ages 5+ are encouraged to help paint the car. No registration required. Be sure to wear old clothes! The car will also make an appearance in the Chelsea Fair Parade on Saturday, August 27 at 1pm.  

 

The demolition derby takes place at 7:30pm Tuesday, August 24 and Wednesday, August 25.

Meet Karen, Head of Youth & Teen Services     

 

KarenKaren has enjoyed working at the library for the past 7 years. She specializes in early literacy, elementary fiction, books for boys and youth programming. Karen is responsible for the juvenile fiction, juvenile non-fiction, juvenile series and graphics, parenting, juvenile reference, music (pop/rock, country, jazz, rap, blues, R&B), and family dvd collections. She likes to read urban fantasy, contemporary adult fiction, best sellers, mysteries and regular fantasy. Karen's outside interests include music, travel, hiking, tennis, US History (especially the  Civil War), historical music and  HGTV. She is currently listening to the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan on audio.

Purple Rose Theatre Concert Reading...
by Teens!      

 

Purple Rose

Join us for a reading of the works produced by young writers who will attend the Purple Rose Theatre Youth Playwriting Workshop! Chelsea teens will spend three days working with Purple Rose resident artists Michelle Mountain and Heidi Bennett to learn the basic rules of dramatic structure. Through writing exercises, teens will be creating monologues, scenes and the beginnings of a short play.
