Take a Guided Tour of SculptureWalk Chelsea
SculptureWalk French Curve
French Curve, welded stainless steel and marble by James Havens of Woodville, Ohio.

Chelsea District Library and River Gallery will be offering a guided tour of newly installed sculptures around town for 2011's SculptureWalk Chelsea. The tour will take place on Saturday, June 25th at 1:00pm, leaving from Katie's Korner on the library lawn. The walk will provide an opportunity for a docent-guided tour of the art and to meet some of the artists.  Participants will gain a higher level of appreciation for sculptures that will be displayed in Chelsea for a year. The community is encouraged to take advantage of experiencing SculptureWalk as an activity -  a walk around the sculpture location circuit is about 2.25 miles, and is a good way to enjoy the outdoors, exercise and appreciate art all at once.

This is the 3rd annual SculptureWalk, but the first year for guided tours. This is a unique opportunity to experience Chelsea's newest sculptures in the company of an expert, who can explain how it was selected, why it was chosen for its specific location and share information about the artist and what the artist was trying to achieve with their sculpture. Some of the artists will be in attendance giving viewers a chance to hear the artist's point of view from the source.

To register, call (734) 475-8732 x 219 or register online.

Linda Ballard is Chelsea District Library's Assistant Director. Her main responsibilities at the library fall into three areas:  the facility, human resources and volunteer coordination. Linda represents the library on the Art Committee and serves on the Finance, Fundraising,  and Chelsea Reads Together committees. She also serves as the co-secretary of the Shared Automation User's Group committee for the library's co-op, The Library Network.

Linda played volleyball in high school and while she hasn't played much lately, still enjoys watching college and beach volleyball. She plays tennis- not very well, but enjoys it when she gets the chance! Linda loves spending time with her three year old grandson and 22 month-old twin grandson and daughter. After a several year hiatus from camping she recently purchased a tent and kayaks and set a goal to kayak all the Great Lakes this summer with her husband, Kerry.

Linda is currently reading The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.
