People Are Funny. Comedy Showcase Kicks Off Sounds & Sights!

The 3rd Annual Comedy Showcase kicks off Thursday, June 16 at 6:30pm in Katie's Korner on the library lawn with Dobie Maxwell. This four-week comedy series takes place on Thursday nights through July 7 as part of Sounds and Sights on Thursday nights. The library is partnering with the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase for a third year to select first rate comedians who have strong performance history and humor to share. Enjoy top comedians and energetic acts right in your backyard for free. Headliners will be preceded by two opening acts. Join us June 16, 23, 30, and July 7 for an all star stand-up comedy performance. All performances take place on Thursdays at 6:30pm in Katie's Korner, located on the library lawn. Chef Craig Common of Common Grill is making you breakfast to raise funds for Chelsea's Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights. Come together on Thursday, June 16 between 7:30 &10:00 am. at Yellow Door. Donate to Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights and get a delicious breakfast loaded with local farm fresh ingredients. Kick off summer with Chef Craig @ Yellow Door! Ta-da ~ the menu: Top off breakfast with a slice of artfully crafted birthday cake by Chef Paul Cousins. Two gourmet geniuses under one roof -- served with a fresh cup of joe. Gemini Kicks Off Adult Summer Reading

Gemini, made up of twin brothers San and Laz Slomovits, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1960s with a tribute concert of quintessential folk revival classics, like If I Had a Hammer and Blowin' in the Wind. This great outdoor concert kicks off Adult Summer Reading, so come enjoy the music and register to participate in our Made in Michigan-themed summer reading game! Lions Provide Free Vision Screening at the Youth Summer Reading Kickoff!

The Chelsea Lions Club will be providing
free vision screening to your preschool child during the library's Summer Reading Kickoff event on Wednesday, June 14 from 12:00-2:00pm! Project Kidsight helps identify the presence of eye disorders including far and
nearsightedness, astigmatism, and more. No physical contact is made with your child and eyedrops are not necessary. The screening is over 90% effective in detecting vision problems. Call 475-8732 x4, for more information and to register your child for this important screening!

Park & Read Back for Third Summer

Free One-Day Vehicle Permit
Back for a third summer, the DNR and the Library of Michigan are again offering Park & Read, which allows Chelsea District Library resident cardholders to "check-out" a free one-day vehicle permit to any Michigan state park or recreation area this summer. This $6 savings also provides free access to the more than 500 events taking place in state parks throughout the summer.
Passes are valid for seven days from check-out and may be used for one day at any one of Michigan's 98 state parks. Passes are valid for day-use only.
Free Hammock
Many participating parks will offer a free hammock to use during your time in the park, allowing you to fully enjoy a great book in Michigan's great outdoors.
Park and Read is a joint venture of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Macy's, The Hammock Company, and the Library of Michigan.

- Provide exceptional customer service at the check-out desk, check in and out library materials, handle money, and issue library cards.
- Answer check-out questions in person and on the telephone.
- Sort and shelve materials.
- Mend materials with minor damage.

About Us
The Chelsea District Library is nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide equal access to quality resources that serve the lifelong cultural, educational and informational needs and interests of all people. The Library currently serves 14,000 residents in the Chelsea district - City of Chelsea plus Dexter, Lima, Lyndon and Sylvan townships and more than 20,000 individuals visit the Library each month. The Library's state-of-the-art facility is an access point for information including: books, periodicals, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, downloadable e-books, subscription databases as well as access to the Internet. In addition to providing dynamic services to complement and support local schools and other important community needs, the Chelsea District Library strives to present timely, interesting and high-quality programs and events to engage and enrich the Chelsea community.
