Merkel Donation Helps Kids Find Their Space

Lisa holds carpet squares donated by Merkel
Youth & Teen Librarian, Lisa McClure, holds carpet squares donated by Merkel Furniture.

Merkel Furniture We would like to thank Merkel Furniture and Carpet One for generously donating 30 lovely carpet squares for our youth programs!  Classroom carpet squares for preschool and school aged children can be wonderful management and teaching tools, showing them where to sit and allowing them to settle down and focus.  Some patrons like a spot with defined boundaries to make them comfortable in a large space.   We know that they will be tremendously useful for our younger patrons and our special needs patrons.

This summer we will be having a Special Needs Movie Matinee on June 15, 2011, from 2:00-3:30pm.   We will be showing the funny film Yogi Bear for ages birth to 17 years, and carpet squares provide a comfortable, relaxing place to sit that allow children to set their own limits.

Bears Read Comics, too!

Super Ted Super Ted reading comic

Kids Read Comics has a teddy bear mascot, named Super Ted, wearing a t-shirt made by Chelsea Teddy Bear Company. You may see Super Teds in seven different downtown businesses, the Chelsea Center for the Arts and the library.

The public is invited to bid on the bear, with proceeds going to the library and Kids Read Comics. Bid on the library's Super Ted at the 1st level information desk.

Kids Read Comics is made possible with a grant from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and sponsored by Jet's Pizza, Friends of Chelsea District Library, Chelsea Center for the Arts, Mission Marketplace, Treehouse and River Gallery Fine Art.
