Toyota Donation Impacts Library Operating Budget

Ron and Andy with Toyota donation

Ron Andrews, Head of Technology and Andrew Johanesen, Network Administrator, surrounded by computers donated by Toyota.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing, N.A. of Saline, Michigan has donated 45 public computers and monitors to the Chelsea District Library. This is the largest technology donation the library has received to date. The donation will have a great impact on staff and the community allowing the library  to replace older public and staff models.

The sheer depth of the donation will allow staff to re-imagine the use of current computers and provide more robust workstations to the community. In difficult economic times, Toyota's donation will strengthen the library's budget by allowing resources to be allocated to other strategic purposes.  "The use of these computers and monitors will have a tremendous impact on the library. We will be able to replace older computers with newer models for both staff and the public, " says Bill Harmer, Library Director, "In addition, this donation has a significant budget implication. We will now have the luxury of adjusting our replacement schedule for older model computers, which will provide a large cost savings on our 2012 operating budget."

Toyota logoToyota's External Affairs representative, Cynthia Mahalak, Chelsea resident and library user, approached Ron Andrews, Head of Technology at the library regarding the donation. "Talk about keeping it local! This generous donation of 45 computers will provide us the opportunity to be more flexible with our technology support and provide upgradeable workstations for public use," says Andrews. The donation includes 38 Dell workstations, including keyboards, monitors and mice and 7 Hewlett Packard workstations. Chelsea District Library staff are grateful for this generous donation!
