Purple Rose Theatre Actors Want Your Feedback!
 | | PRTC actors read White Buffalo in the McKune Room |
Purple Rose Theatre Company (PRTC) actors want to hear from you! The Library and Purple Rose Theatre have partnered to offer script development readings at the Library. These readings are made possible by a generous grant from the Chelsea Community Foundation. Purple Rose actors stage readings here at the Library in order to get feedback on potential plays for their upcoming seasons. Three of the plays in PRTC's 2010 season were greenhoused at the Library with these funds before making the final cut into their schedule.
Join us on Saturday, May 7 from 10:30am - 1:00pm in the McKune Room and enjoy a rare look at the process of playwriting! Enjoy the reading of a new play, titled ""16" about the Detroit Lions 16-0 season, performed by Purple Rose actors. Stay after the performance to share your thoughts on the script! Register now !

Meet Lisa| Youth & Teen Services Librarian
 | Lisa is reading A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip Christian Stead |
Lisa McClure loves kids and teens! As one of our Youth and Teen Librarians, there is nothing she likes better than singing to babies, playing games with preschoolers, doing crafts with schoolchildren, and doing events with teens. No staid adult programs for her; she thinks kids' programs are crazy fun, even with the occasional dribble, spilled paint, or purple hair. Lisa is as adventurous at home as well as at work, and enjoys scuba diving, hiking in the mountains, parasailing, camping and surfing, as well as reading, singing, and the theatre. The Summer Reading Program is her favorite part of the year, and she loves the action and excitement of Drama Week.
Lisa is currently reading Room, by Emma Donoghue. A fantastic tale, it tells the story of five-year-old Jack, who has spent his entire life trapped in a room with his mom. She likes contemporary fiction and Renaissance plays, but also usually has a romance novel tucked in her bag, believing that Harlequin romance novels and Shakespeare all have a place in the world, and that anything that brings you to reading is a good thing. Lisa chooses picture books, board books, folk and fairy tales, holiday books, and youth and teen audiobooks. Her favorite picture book authors are Audrey Wood, Melanie Watt, David McPhail, Amy Rosenthal, Mo Willems, David Wiesner, and too many to mention. Lisa knows a lot about kid's books, so look her up the next time you are at the Library! |

Midwest Literary Walk
Saturday, April 16, 2011 was the 3rd Annual Midwest Literary Walk and it was a great success! Despite gray and rainy weather, we had excellent attendance - even higher numbers than last year! Our fantastic line-up of authors all gave excellent, energetic readings. The Community Open Mic brought out a range of this area's talented writers, sharing their poetry with a receptive and interested crowd. For those of you who couldn't make it or want to relive the moment, see video of some of the readings, available on Library's Youtube channel.
