Volunteer of the Year | Toni Keim

Toni Keim | Volunteer of the YearToni Keim | Toni  started as a volunteer for the Library in April 2009 and gave 180 hours from April - December that year. Last year she put in 139 hours."Falling down on the job" she says!

"Toni has been scanning all manner of documents, photographs, and other items-even a couple of 3D items, a testament to her ingenuity.  Her energy and elbow grease are amazing!  She is not afraid to tackle tasks that would make mere mortals throw up their hands in frustration.  She's most recently completed scanning the women's club booklets that should be up on the Stories of Chelsea website soon, says Rachael Dreyer, the Local History Librarian who supervises Toni's work, "She's currently scanning a scrapbook of materials from the Chelsea Future Farmers of America, and she files obituary cards as they're used or as we finish entering new ones into the database. Toni's involved in a lot of quality control work, where her attention to detail really comes into its own.  She has made sure that PDF copies have been produced for the documents we've scanned, as opposed to TIFFs of individual pages.  She tracks down missing documents and folders, and really helps with the maintenance and administration of the local history collection."

Volunteer of the Year | Jim Hammel

Jim Hammel READ

Jim Hammel | In 2010 Jim served over 125 hours at the library, working to improve access to our local history collection. Rachael Dreyer, the Local History librarian who supervises Jim's work, says "He has been tirelessly scanning for the family and local history projects since the scanning project began in 2007 and shows up without fail each week.  The scanning can be mind-numbing, but Jim never complains about the tediousness of the work.  He's also been photographing different buildings around town on his free time to help us set up the "Then and Now" exhibit, which is a project that he suggested and has been very successful.  He's a volunteer that we've come to rely on for the consistency and quality of his volunteer efforts."
