3rd Annual Midwest Literary Walk
  

Midwest Literary Walk

Celebrate National Library Week with our 3rd Annual Midwest Literary Walk! Several current and past Michigan Notable Book Award winners and a former National Book Award nominee will be among the authors reading their work on Main St. at the 3rd Annual Midwest Literary Walk, Saturday April 16 from 12noon-6:00pm.. Local poets and authors will have the opportunity to read their own work at the Open Mic part of the program. The public is invited to enjoy the sequential readings at venues up and down Main Street.

 

The complete line-up includes:

 

12:00pm | Library | Laura Kasischke (2011 Michigan Notable Book Award winner for her historical novella, Eden Springs) and Keith Taylor

 

1:00pm | River Gallery | Jeff Kass and Scott Beal

 

2:00pm | Zou Zou's | lunch break with live music from The Shelter Dogs

 

3:00pm | Just Imagine Bookstore |  Bonnie Jo Campbell (2010 National Book Award nominee for her short story collection, American Salvage) and Zilka Joseph

 

4:00pm | Open Mic at the bookstore

 

5:00pm | River Gallery | ML Liebler and Bonnie Rose Marcus. The last reading will be followed by a dance party with the rock band October Babies.

 

Open Mic readers can sign up the day of the event; readers will be limited to three minutes per reading.

Celebrate National Library Week! Meet and greet three famous children's authors/illustrators at this special event in the library:Gail Carson Levine. author of Newbery Honor book (and motion picture), Ella Enchanted, Michigan cartoonist and Chelsea District Library's Artist-in-Residence, Jerzy Drozd and Johanna Hurwitz, author of many hilarious books for young readers, including Class Clown and Teacher's Pet. Hear a brief presentation from each author, ask questions, and then get your book signed. Books by each author will be available for purchase at the library, courtesy of Chelsea's Just Imagine bookstore.

Celebrate National Library Week! Volunteer of the Year and Friend of the Year will be recognized at the Friend's Open House that Saturday. We have so many wonderful, dedicated volunteers it is always hard to choose just two! No registration required, just drop-in!

No more plastic bags!   

The Library will no longer be providing plastic bags for patrons use due to cost and environmental impact. We are currently looking into more economical and eco-friendly options for the future, but in the meantime, encourage patrons to bring their own re-usable bags to the Library.
