Monday, March 14th marked the launch our wonderful new Low Vision Service Center! The Library and Lions Club of Chelsea have joined forces to help people with vision impairments maintain their independence through the use of optical, non-optical, or electronic vision aids. With the help of a $3,000 donation from the Lions Club, we have installed a low vision service center on the 2nd Level of the Library.

The reception started with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a  demonstration by Ellen Stross, a low vision expert and librarian from the Plymouth District Library.

Connecting to Our Wireless Just Got Easier!

wireless connectionThe Chelsea District Library is dedicated to providing access to information on the Internet. Wireless connectivity throughout the Library has been a challenge due to the variety of laptops, wireless devices and e-readers now on the market. Effective March 18, 2011 a library card and PIN number or visitor slip will no longer be required to connect to the Library's wireless network.

The wireless network and data ports available to the public using their own equipment are unsecured, unencrypted and unfiltered. Users of the Library's wireless network or data ports are required to abide by Internet Access and Public Computing Use policy.

The Library's public computers have been and will remain equipped with filtering software. Despite this provision, computer users may still encounter web sites or material they find offensive. All computer users assume responsibility for their own use of the Internet. The Library assumes responsibility only for the information provided of its own authorship on the Library's web site.

The Chelsea District Library supports parents in their efforts to guide their children's access to information. Parents who are concerned about what their children may encounter when using Library computers or wireless connection must accompany their children to the Library and closely supervise their use of services.

Meet Julie: Circulation Assistant, Library Comedian

Ellie, Maddie & Julie
Julie and her daughters are currently reading
The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

Julie works as a Circulation Assistant and is the library comedian. Her laughter can often be heard on the 2nd level of the Library. Shhhh!

Julie is raising two daughters and has 5 sisters... so she is able to listen to multiple conversations at once. Accomplishments of note: Julie learned to walk at 9 months of age and was voted best sense of humor in high school. She lives in a 135-year-old house that constantly needs renovation and enjoys gardening. She is busy with various parent involvement activities, especially the Chelsea Aquatic Club. Julie loves living in a small town where everyone watches out for everyone else. Did we mention she is funny

Julie is currently reading The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins together with her daughters. Ellie is reading The Hunger Games (book 1), Julie is reading Catching Fire (book 2) and Maddie is reading Mockingjay (book 3).
