Hometown Holidays Rock & Roll Party

The High StrungLooking for a high-energy way to celebrate the holiday? Don't miss the Hometown Holidays Rock-n-Roll Party! The Chelsea Center for the Arts, the River Gallery and the Chelsea District Library will celebrate the holidays and their collaborative efforts with a performance by The High Strung at the River Gallery. Doors open at 7:30pm and the performance starts at 8:00pm on Saturday, December 4. The River Gallery is located at 120 South Main Street. For the past six years the quirky, carefree, energetic music of Detroit's The High Strung has been electrifying audiences across the nation with sunny three-part harmonies and witty, lyrical bravado. Hailed by Rolling Stone, the New York Times, and Village Voice as one of the best rock & roll bands in America, The High Strung's debut album was named one of the top 10 rock records of 2003 by NPR's Ken Tucker. The band's videos have appeared on MTV, and they have been featured in Entertainment Weekly, Magnet, Harp, and Spin magazines. No registration required, drop-in!

Volunteer Holiday Open HousePlease join us to honor and thank our fantastic volunteers! If you are now, ever have been, or are thinking about being a library volunteer, please come out and meet library staff, board members, and other volunteers. We will treat you to a light buffet and holiday goodies, and our own Ron Andrews will provide holiday music on the piano. It is just one small way we can say "thanks" to our wonderful volunteers so please join us for food, fun, and song! No registration required, drop-in!


Common Chords Handbell Choir

Common Chords BirdDon't miss the Common Chords handbell choir to kick-off Chelsea's 23rd Annual Hometown Holiday Celebration. Common Chords is a musical group for the developmentally disabled.  Membership includes young adults age 16 and older with a wide variety of developmental disabilities, from  Washtenaw County.  Currently, there are 18 participants who come from Ann Arbor, Milan, Ypsilanti, Chelsea & Saline.  Common Chords, founded by community parents and interested musicians, has been together for eighteen years. For twelve years Common Chords has been performing for area churches, service clubs, senior citizens groups and other organizations across Washtenaw County and the State of Michigan. The mission of Common Chords is to provide young adults with developmental disabilities an opportunity to grow socially, educationally, spiritually, and to develop self-esteem through musical performance. Join us for music, refreshments and good cheer as we enjoy this great Chelsea tradition.No registration required, drop-in!

Looking for the perfect gifts to give this holiday season? Look no further! The 23rd Annual Chelsea Hometown Holidays brings a fun-filled weekend of celebration to kick-off the holiday season.

 

Come to our Tween and Teen Gifts for the Holidays program and make your OWN holiday gifts to give family and friends! Create personalized pillowcases, homemade body lotion, painted rocks, tile magnets and decorative cards. Make it, wrap it and take it home the same day! All supplies will be provided. Registration is required and open to kids ages 10-15. Register now!

The Chelsea District Library is nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide equal access to quality resources that serve the lifelong cultural, educational and informational needs and interests of all people.  The Library currently serves 14,000 residents in the Chelsea district - City of Chelsea plus Dexter, Lima, Lyndon and Sylvan townships and more than 20,000 individuals visit the Library each month.  The Library's state-of-the-art facility is an access point for information including: books, periodicals, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, downloadable e-books, subscription databases as well as access to the Internet.  In addition to providing dynamic services to complement and support local schools and other important community needs, the Chelsea District Library strives to present timely, interesting and high-quality programs and events to engage and enrich the Chelsea community.
