Parent Allies for Student Success (PASS) an outreach program designed to teach parents how to advocate for their children.
NAACP Arlington Outreach Program is currently recruiting PARENTS and ALLIES.
PASS is seeking PARENTS who find
- little or no time to attend PTA meetings.
- Parents working two jobs to meet basic needs.
- Parents intimidated by language and education barriers.
- Parents left out of the education and community process.
PASS becomes the alternative to the PTA. PARENTS will learn to utilize government community and educational resources. Along with skills to identify their own, and child's strengths. Effective problem solving skills will be taught.
PASS is also looking for ALLIES to teach PARENTS how to advocate for their children, ALLIES should have a willingness to teach all cultural and economic groups of parents. The importance of their participation and involvement in school and community activities. ALLIES will have the responsibility for one PARENT for one or more years. ALLIES will be trained, at no cost, by professors of George Mason University. The training curriculum was designed for PASS by professors who are trained experts in the field of parent and child development.
PARENT and ALLIES are invited to a PASS orientation.
- When: Every Thursday or Friday during March and April 2008
- Time: 4:00pm (Learn more and join in less then an hour)
- Place: 951 South George Mason Drive, Arlington, VA 22204 (located near the corner of Columbia Pike & George Mason Drive, Wachovia Bank Building-second floor (free parking at bank)

In 2005 The DC Salsa Network instituted an annual fundraising drive for the purpose of awarding scholarships to qualified Latino students entering college. What's New @ The YesOn2salsa Learn 2 Dance Studio Join the 1st Y2salsa student group! Auditions are being held Saturday May 3rd @ 4pm for the 1st Y2salsa student group. Come prepared to have fun, sweat and learn to start and take your dancing to a higher level. Spaces are limited. Audition fee is $5 and a detailed dance evaluation will be provided for each participant @ the audition.
The Y2salsa student group will consist of 16 sessions every Saturday for 2 hours for 4 months from 4pm-6pm. Students that participate will learn to improve their dance technique in Salsa & Hip-hop to have the option to perform a choreography that will consist of Salsa and Hip-Hop at a special event or at local venues.
The students will have the opportunity to work with 3 advanced Instructors Karen Aguilar, Orlando Machuca with Salsa and styling and Ronald Rios with Hip-hop.
The Y2salsa student group is being created for the students who would like to take their dancing to a higher level and improve their skills in timing, leading or following, spinning, styling and footwork technique to built attitude and confidence on the dance floor and on a performance stage.
