Learn more about our Honorees:
- Jon R. Del Giorno, Partner, Pitta Bishop Del Giorno & Giblin LLC. Jon has been a wonderful, long-time friend to NYCID for more than 10 years. Whatever we've needed help with -- fundraising; strategic thinking; introducing new partners in Brooklyn and Staten Island; or introducing us to potential new board members -- Jon has always been there for us. We are excited to recognize all of the help he has provided to us over the years.
- Olympus Academy and Seth Schoenfeld, Principal. How do you help over-aged and under-credited young people reconnect with their education? Four years later, we know that it takes a clear vision, collaboration, guidance from experts like New Visions for Public Schools and a strong partnership with an outstanding principal like Seth Schoenfeld. Heard of "Waiting for Superman"? Well we don't have to wait, because our Superman's already here, at our transfer school in Canarsie, Brooklyn, which is now finishing up its third year. Follow them on Twitter at @olympusacademy and see what the experts are saying about our approach.
- Lawyers Alliance for New York and Linda S. Manley, Esq., Legal Director. Whether it's through workshops, advice or finding appropriate pro bono legal counsel, there's no doubt about how vital Lawyers Alliance for New York's assistance has been over the years, especially as we've grown from a smaller organization into the noteworthy and unique service provider that we are today. And Linda has been an essential partner, always available to provide legal counsel herself, or ready to help connect us with the right people and resources.
- Jenner & Block LLP and John J. Molenda, Partner provided pro bono representation over a three-year period. During a very challenging period, John provided legal guidance and leadership to a very talented team of attorneys (including Associate Andrew Kopelman) and allowed NYCID to focus on its mission and provide services to thousands of people in need. In 2010, The American Lawyer recognized Jenner & Block as the number one law firm in the country for pro bono service for the third year in a row.
- Seyfarth Shaw LLP and Robert S. Whitman, Esq., Partner. Over the past 10 years, Rob has provided pro bono legal counsel in the area of employment law. Under Rob's counsel, a personnel handbook has been developed and updated several times; sensitive employment issues have been strategically navigated; harassment training has been provided to supervisors; and he has given peace of mind to our senior management knowing that a nationally recognized law firm is only a phone call away, once again allowing NYCID to stay mission focused.
