The Oprah Effect on Meby Dana Bristol-Smith

On a Saturday
afternoon in January 2007, I got a call completely out of the blue from a writer from O
Magazine--yes, that O Magazine---Oprah! My first thought was
who is this really? Which friend was playing
a joke on me? I think I even asked the writer that question and she replied that
she was in fact a writer for the magazine and she had found an article I had
written, and she wanted to interview me. Would she be able to schedule a time
over the weekend to do so? Well of course I said yes!
After the shock wore off, I did some investigative Googling and found
out that yes, in fact, Kathryn was a writer for O Magazine!
WOW!!!!!!!!!
That started in motion a series of conversations, activities,
dreams, and chance meetings, out of which came the Speak for Success Women's
Leadership Institute.
Oprah does that to you. She motivates you, inspires
you---and me, just by being Oprah. Then the universe starts to line things up.
I thought that having my name mentioned in O Magazine would change my life, my business, and that my phone would be ringing off the hook from everyone asking for advice and wanting to hire me to speak or train their group because I was quoted in O Magazine as Dana Bristol-Smith the business communication expert! Or, at least I'd have my name up in lights,
