How to Change the World By Wayne Ulanski - Wayne@SVF.net
I recently visited an Apple store. Notice that I did not say I recently bought an iPod. This is because after experiencing their store I was moved more by that experience than the iPod itself. By the way, I like that too!
When I returned home I immediately began searching for an explanation as to why I enjoyed the Apple store so much. I found some excerpts from a book by Carmine Gallo called The Apple Experience: Secrets to Building Insanely Great Customer Loyalty. I bought that too!
The Apple Store is the most profitable retailer in America, generating an average of $5,600 per square foot and attracting more than 20,000 visitors a week.
In the decade since Steve Jobs and former head of retail, Ron Johnson, decided to reimagine the retail experience, the Apple Store not only reimagined and reinvented retail, it blew up the model entirely and started from scratch. In his research for The Apple Experience, Carmine discovered ten things that the Apple Store can teach any business in any industry to be more successful:
- Stop selling stuff. When Steve Jobs first started the Apple Store he asked, "How do we enrich people's lives?"
- Enrich lives. The vision behind the Apple Store is "enrich lives," the first two words on a wallet-sized credo card employees are encouraged to carry.
- Hire for smiles. The soul of the Apple Store is in its people. They are hired, trained, motivated and taught to create magical and memorable moments for their customers.
- Celebrate diversity. Apple hires people who reflect the diversity of their customers.
- Unleash inner genius. Teach your customers something they never knew they could do before, and they'll reward you with their loyalty.
- Empower employees. I spent one hour talking to an Apple Store specialist about kids, golf, and my business. We spent about ten minutes talking about the product (a MacBook Air).
- Sell the benefit. Apple Store specialists are taught to sell the benefit behind products and to customize those benefits for the customer.
- Follow the steps of service. The Apple Store teaches its employees to follow five steps in each and every interaction.
- Create multisensory experiences. People enjoy being able to see, touch, and play with products. The sense of touch helps create an emotional connection with a product.
- Appeal to the buying brain. Clutter forces the brain to consume energy. Create uncluttered environments instead.

If your system requires the use of an SVF electric actuator, limit switch, solenoid and/or positioner you are bound to run into NEMA rating(s). NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) is an American organization that publishes standards for performance of electrical enclosures. Its standards provide information of an enclosure's ability to withstand impact, corrosion resistance and waterproofing, among other things.
All SVF electric enclosures have a minimum NEMA 4 rating with some having the option of NEMA 4X and NEMA 7.

SVF has been a preferred supplier of high pressure ball valves to the CNG and Oil & Gas marketplace for a number of years.
Recently we were asked to perform third party testing of our ½" P4 valve according to the NFPA-52 standard.
This standard reads:
4.9.1.1 Shutoff valves shall have a rated service pressure not less than the rated service pressure of the entire system and shall be capable of withstanding a hydrostatic test of at least FOUR TIMES the rated service pressure without rupture.
We are pleased to report that the test valve performed according to this standard to 22,000 psig.
As a result of this achievement we have been awarded an annual contract for hundreds of this high performance, high pressure valve.

"Lessons from the Road" by Dave Meyer, Business Development Manager - DMeyer@SVF.net
Over the past several weeks, traditional sports activities have dominated the media outlets: the Olympic Games have come and gone; the Cincinnati Reds remain in 1st place; the Detroit Tigers are trailing the Chicago White Sox; and the Green Bay Packers appear ready to make another run to the Super Bowl.
A lesser-known event but one equally significant in Lake Michigan history is the Chicago to Mackinac sail boat race. This event has run for 104 consecutive years and is the longest freshwater race in the world; approximately 290 nautical miles or 333 land-based mile equivalents. It also has a rich history of participants: Steve Fossett, Richard Branson, and several extended-family members of Disney fame. In all, an individual, group, or team competes for the singular and fleeting opportunity of being acknowledged by their peers as the best.
