PASCAGOULA'S 'ANCHOR SQUARE' WINS AWARD     


Congratulations to Harry Schmidt, director of community and economic development, and the City of Pascagoula for receiving the 2012 Mississippi Economic Development Council Community Economic Development Award (Category: Cities with a Population of 15,001-40,000). Anchor Square is a collection of 16 Mississippi Cottages, originally used as temporary post-hurricane housing, that have been repurposed into a shopping village in downtown Pascagoula. John Scott received an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship and a master's degree in Economic Development from Southern Miss. He currently works as the assistant director of economic development for Choctaw County.

COMPETENCIES GUIDE FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPERS 


The International Economic Development Council has released a new guide, "Executive and Professional Competencies for Economic Developers." This includes guidelines for economic development organizations when evaluating their current employees and recruiting new employees. Mississippi Enterprise for Technology recently hosted Southern Miss economic development graduate students during a tour of the John C. Stennis Space The group visited the Rolls-Royce Stennis Outdoor Test Facility and learned about their upcoming expansion.
