CENTER OVERVIEW

The Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship is home to several centers including the Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation (CLTT). The CLTT was developed in response to requests from the public and private sector transportation industry. The mission is to bring together the university's expertise with logistics and economic development to meet the region's growing need and to leverage its transportation infrastructure to impact economic development. Some examples include the expansion of the Port of Gulfport and the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, the revitalization of railroads, and Blueprint Mississippi's targeting of the warehouse & distribution industry.

Message from the CLTT Director:

I would like to thank the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship for hosting this newsletter, which is an effort by the CLTT to keep the public and private stakeholders informed of activities of the CLTT and relevant activity in the Logistics, Trade and Transportation sector.

We are glad to say that the new Master of Science in Logistics, Trade, and Transportation (MS LTT) is up and running thanks to the great support of our Industry Advisory Council and a lot of administrative work needed to establish the master's program.  READ MORE

MISSISSIPPI LOCATION AND ROADWAY TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE

Employment CentersMississippi leverages its key geographic location to play an important role in the transportation of goods between North America and Latin American Markets. According to Mississippi Development Authority, the roadway system in Mississippi is one of the best, "ranked fourth best in the US and the best in the south." Employment, economic productivity, and high property values depend on reliable access to transportation. The locations of Mississippi's businesses employing people in Mississippi follow its interstate and state highways, underscoring the importance of highway access to the state's economy as seen in the Figure on the left.
