What are the Best Practices for Mentoring Programs?
VMP's mission is to improve the quality and quantity of mentoring relationships for Virginia's young people.

One of the ways we do this is to ensure young people are being mentored in high-quality mentoring programs. High-quality programs have a greater chance of retaining mentors and seeing matches persist long-term. Longer, healthier matches mean greater benefits for youth. High-quality programs have in place the 10 Elements of Effective Practice and excel at implementing each.

The Elements of Effective Practice were designed by MENTOR and researchers in the field of youth mentoring. Learn more about them here.

VMP's Regional Training Institutes provide training and resources on the Elements of Effective Practice. Learn more about VMP's Regional Training Institutes.

VMP's mission is to increase the quality and quantity of mentoring relationships for young people in Virginia. Our vision is that every child in Virginia who wants or needs a mentor will be provided with one. Join us in making this vision a reality!
