Greetings!

In the face of increasing service requests - we set a record earlier this week - and many volunteers out of action, we are keeping up nicely! Thank you to everyone who has taken on an extra load to make it happen for our neighbors!

Filling New Positions

jobs ad The first of four open positions has been filled - we are delighted to announce the addition of Linda Clark to our staff! Linda joins us in the position of Development and Communications Manager, where she'll be working with Kent to make us more visible in the community and increase our funding base.

Linda earned degrees in communications and educational leadership, and has fifteen years' experience in public relations and communications, thirteen years' experience marketing community colleges, twelve years' experience directing fund-raising activities, and nearly two years' experience teaching PR courses at a university. She worked most recently with Yavapai College.

We hope to fill the three remaining openings by the end of July. In the meantime, preparations are underway at the office to accommodate these changes.

Save the Date!

20th Anniversary Bash - 11.01.12

Save the Date! There are not many volunteer-based nonprofit service organizations with no fees-for-service which can boast a twenty-year track record of success.

Join us to celebrate our 20th anniversary at the Hilton Tequa Ballroom November 1st. Doors open at 4:30 PM - tickets are available for $50 each. Plan to enjoy appetizers, wine tasting, a fine dinner, entertainment, and an inspiring program. More information to follow!

Jerona Orientation

Coffee cup We're trying something a little different in order to recruit a bunch of new volunteers in Cottonwood. Kent is speaking to three groups in the area in early August; we've got a booth at Cottonwood Night Out on August 7th; and we're submitting an article to the Verde Independent - all with the idea of driving prospects to a volunteer orientation Saturday morning, August 11th, from 10 AM - Noon at Jerona Java Cafe on Mingus Ave.

We'll be presenting a new version of the volunteer orientation, followed by a mini production line to fast-track our prospects directly into their first service request.

If you know anyone who might be interested in joining the fun, please have them RSVP us or send them our way. Better yet, hog tie them and reel them in yourself - the coffee is terrific!

ADOT Grant

ADOT We've receive notification of a grant award in the amount of $67,500 from the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The purpose of this planning grant is to develop the system to coordinate mobility management and ensure older adults have access to a variety of transportation options. The plan will focus on assisting with coordinating all available transportation resources - including our network of volunteer transportation providers.

Needed: Large Plastic Storage Totes

Storage tote Thanks to your generous donations, our Silver Linings Thrift Shop is in need of more plastic storage totes to save winter clothing and holiday items in nice condition until it is time for them to be put out for sale. If you have any empty totes taking up space in your garage, please consider donating them to Silver Linings. If you would like them to be picked up, call Kali, Thrift Store Manager, at 928.282.1892.

We want to thank everyone - those who donate and those who shop - for supporting Silver Linings. We encourage you to stop by - we'd love to see you. If you don't have time to shop, you can leave gently-used items on the back porch.

A Sedona Sing Out

Please plan to join us Sunday, September 9th at 2:00 PM for a Musical note music-filled afternoon benefitting Verde Valley Caregivers.

The event is sponsored by, and will be held at, Sedona United Methodist Church. Advance tickets are available for $20 at the church, VVCC's office, Rycus Corners and Weber's IGA in VOC, our Silver Linings Thrift Shop, and Curves and Basha's in Sedona. We'll be posting more information on our website soon!

Just for Fun

You've probably picked up on our subtle hints guiding you gently into the computer age. As you learn the new lingo, here's a little set of abbreviations - customized for people like us - to speed your communications.

Although change is in the air, there's no question where our roots lie: volunteers serving neighbors. It's worked for twenty years and we expect it to work for twenty more! Thank you for your service!

Sincerely,
