Happy Thanksgiving!

Greetings!

Greetings!

The holiday season brings loads of events and opportunities to reach out to neighbors and support Verde Valley Caregivers. Besides our successful fundraising event earlier this month, we participated in Mitzvah Day this past weekend, and are actively involved with our Christmas Tree Giving project.

Staffing these events adds additional work to daily service, which is why we're creating a volunteer Events Team. We welcome your support and your ideas in growing our events and making them even better than they already are. Please join the team by expressing your interest either via email or by telephoning Roger at 928.204.1238.

We want to make this new team as much fun for volunteers as we can and recruit enough volunteers to share the load.

newvolunteerNew Volunteer Orientation

VolunteersKent provides orientation for new volunteers at least once each month. All volunteers are welcome to attend. If you know someone who would like to volunteer, please invite them personally.

We've been asked several times lately if attending a volunteer orientation session is required before a volunteer can begin to serve. The answer is "no." Filling out and signing the volunteer agreement and giving us a few moments to complete the background check, plus meeting with Kent, are the only requirements before serving. We ask new volunteers to complete the orientation session because it provides an important opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of who we are and the service we provide. It's also a good time to interact with our Executive Director.

mitzvahMitzvah (Good Deed) Day

Logo Mitzvah DayMitzvah Day is our community's annual day of volunteering. Last Sunday, Verde Valley Caregivers hosted six volunteers who made reach-out phone calls to neighbors. We want to thank these volunteers for their service.

The idea behind these calls was to set up a program of storytelling, in which volunteers collect the life stories of our neighbors. Besides receiving lots of good ideas from the Mitzvah Day volunteers, they reported that they were transformed by their wonderful conversations with neighbors. Good things happen when neighbors and volunteers meet in a spirit of connection!

christmasChristmas Trees

Christmas Giving Trees have been set up at Walmart and both Sedona and Cottonwood Public Libraries.

Low-income neighbors sent in their requests for Christmas gifts, which were transferred to gift tags. Presents are already being collected from large gift boxes at each site. Our next step is to join together for a wrapping party on Saturday, December 10th. After that, we'll be sending volunteers to make Christmas Treedeliveries to neighbors.

We're still in need of the following, so please let us know if you can help with:

  • Gift boxes and bags
  • Wrapping paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbons and bows

And, let us know if you'd like to join the fun for our wrapping extravaganza or to take a delivery route near you!

We are open Monday through Saturday, 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM. And, don't forget to mention you're a volunteer in order to receive a 50% discount (you'll need to show your VVCC badge)!
