You may not have visited our Silver Linings Thrift Shop lately - now is a great time to do so! In Silver Linings Thift Shopaddition to great bargains and getting a start on your holiday shopping, you'll get to touch base with some terrific volunteers whose work helps support all that we do.

The Thrift Shop is always looking for your gently used items - by donating them, you can make room for this year's gifts. Your donations can be dropped off on the Shop's back porch - preferably during business hours - located at 345 Jordan Road at Apple Avenue in Uptown Sedona. Silver Linings is only two blocks from the VVCC office, so next time you're in the area, please stop by!

We are open Monday through Saturday, 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM. And, don't forget to mention you're a volunteer in order to receive a 50 % discount (you'll need to show your VVCC badge)!

transportationTransportation

When we begin filling service requests each day, we start with requests for transportation. Our reasoning is that transportation usually involves rides to and from doctor appointments and that Transportation Volunteerthese are more urgent than shopping or other requests. Lately, we've noticed that many of our volunteers are not signed up to do transportation. We would like to ask you to consider adding transportation to the services you provide.

The Transportation Volunteer gives a Neighbor a ride to and from necessary appointments and services. These Neighbors have no personal means of transportation or may temporarily not be able to drive and need transport to medical services, social service appointments, the

pharmacy, hair salon, the bank, or the post office.

Neighbors must be able to enter and exit an auto with minimal assistance and with no lifting on the part of the volunteer. It is Verde Valley Caregivers' policy to NOT transport wheelchairs. Transportation of a specific Neighbor is usually a one-time service. Transportation is provided as your schedule permits.

If you'd like to become a Transportation Volunteer, just call us at 928.204.1238, and we'll update your record in the computer.

fundraiserFundraiser Luncheon

Fundraiser LuncheonMore than one hundred donors and volunteers attended last week's successful annual fundraiser at Church of the Red Rocks.

Mike Tabback, of KAZM Radio, served as MC. Many of you know Mike is one of our handy persons and his spirit of service carried the event. Both he and our keynote speaker, Dr. Harriet Young, a professor at NAU and a caregiver for her husband, delivered poignant personal stories which illustrated that despite our best planning, sometimes things in our lives fall apart. At those moments, we turn to each other for support. That's what Verde Valley Caregivers is about.

Through your service, you're helping build a network of support for our entire community - one which will benefit all of us as it grows and strengthens. Although the one-to-one service you provide is loaded with meaning personally, the effects of your work go far beyond what you may imagine. Keep up the great work!

And, it's the perfect opportunity to reel in a friend who would enjoy being part of our growing team.
