Greetings!

It's been a busy month - what else is new? Thanks to every one of you who extended a hand to a neighbor in need during October - you know what it means to make a difference.

We're renewing our commitment to reach out and connect all of our volunteers and neighbors, which is why this newsletter is being developed. We hope you enjoy the new look!

And, as you know, communication is a two-way street, so...

Call Us!
  • If you can or cannot perform that service - and if you would, please let us know why. Contact us!We're struggling to fill some service requests and trying to understand the patterns and how to move beyond them. Information from volunteers always helps!
  • To choose service ops - why not fill in your volunteer service before you fill up the rest of your week?
  • To update your availability - if you keep getting calls for service requests you didn't sign up for, or times you're never available, let's make sure we get your record updated.
By the way, we always appreciate it when you give us a heads up about a problem with a neighbor or share your ideas for improving our service. After all, who knows better than you?

Invite a Friend!

Join us for our New Volunteer Orientation, Thursday, November 17th, from 10 AM - Noon. We'll meet at the office, 299 Van Deren, Suite 2. And, it's the perfect opportunity to reel in a friend who would enjoy being part of our growing team.

New Volunteer Ops
  • Event volunteers for Christmas Tree Giving - we're recruiting a team to help set upVolunteer! three trees, wrap gifts, and make a delivery run. Neighbors keep reporting that the only gifts or attention they receive at Christmas are from us - that's why we keep doing it!
  • Transportation to Flag - we're looking for a few volunteers to coordinate an occasional trip to the Flagstaff Medical Center for our neighbors - mileage paid.
  • Your call - as we develop the volunteer program, new volunteer opportunities can be shaped to your interests, skills, and talents. Please let us know your thoughts about ways you would like to serve.

If you're interested, please call Roger at 928.204.1238 or email him for additional information or to sign on.

Service Request Volunteers

Much gratitude to our volunteers who staff the front desk and make the match between neighbors and volunteers for each and every service request. It's a challenging service Volunteersrequiring a great spirit, excellent phone skills, an ability to focus when it gets a little chaotic, and, oh yes, work the computer. It's a treat to listen to them work.

Service Request Volunteers gently twist arms to get neighbor needs met, and you can hear them cheer each time a request is filled. At the end of the day, they also make calls to neighbors to deliver the difficult news that their request cannot be filled, and to help them work out alternatives. It's hard work, with a lot of ups and downs. It's a privilege to work with this team of dedicated volunteers.

We're also welcoming a stream of new trainees whose presence helps us lighten the load as we fill requests further into the future - a win for all. Our next step is to staff both desks in the office so we can take on more work as the number of neighbors and requests continues to rise.

Website UpdateWebsite update

In a major breakthrough, Judith broke the communication barrier between the new website, our database, and our email program. Congratulations, Judith! It feels like a downhill run to our next major step - beta testing. We'll keep you posted!
New neighbors continue to pour in - sometimes four or five in a day. They're being referred by their friends, families, caregivers, and medical professionals. We don't see it slowing down - and we don't see the needs of our neighbors diminishing. Please consider being proactive in choosing to make a difference, make a friend, and have fun.

Thanks for all you do!
