The Kissing Disease | |
Mononucleosis, or mono, is a common viral infection that can leave you feeling tired and weak for weeks or months. Often occurring in teens age 15 to 17, mono is spread by saliva, close contact and through kissing, earning the nickname the "kissing disease." It is possible to be exposed to the infection yet not become ill. You can also be a carrier of the infection without knowing you have it. Symptoms typically occur 4-6 weeks after exposure making it difficult to determine your specific date of exposure. Because mononucleosis can be life-threatening, especially for athletes in contact sports or vigorous activity, it is crucial to properly diagnose and treat the infection as soon symptoms present. Learn the symptoms, treatments and health tips of Mononucleosis.
