I have been slacking off again and that is why you have not heard from me in a while. We decided to take an impromptu trip to Utah. Before I debrief myself here in the blog, thank you for the notes asking about my welfare. One of you sent me a note asking if I was bored with blogging now that I am retired.
Not at all. I have never been so busy and active as I have in the last 5 weeks. I do not have the luxury of sitting at a desk all day and clipping interesting items with which to build my blog. After running around all day long, it is a bit of a challenge to start from scratch, but I will work on it.
We had to head to Utah to drop off our Jayco Greyhawck motorhome to have some work done to it. No it's not broken, we wanted the automatic stabilizers put on and a tow package to tow a car. Dennis and I drove up on Wednesday and Devin, Jerene and Jack followed on Thursday via Delta Airlines.
And at the last minute (Well about a week out.) we invited Mr. Douglas Nash from England to join us. He was in Bordeaux when I called and I assumed he might not be up for the quick transit home and then back on a place to Utah. He proved me wrong. He arrived (Much to his grave concern.) at our home about 7 minutes before Dennis and I arrived with the motorhome.
(Imagine spending about 19 hours in planes and airports and arriving in neighborhood in the dark not sure if it's the right house, knocking on the door and there is no answer.)
We enjoyed the cool fresh air of Utah with a scotch, while watching the evening sky roll up before our eyes. It was a great first night.
Thursday I was very productive, addressing the needs of our home in Draper. We dropped off the motorhome, had breakfast, took care of a couple of chores, went grocery shopping and returned to the house so I could create a fabulous meal of Chicken with Peppers with Dirty Rice. Man Child, Devin, and Jerene arrived almost on time and dinner was waiting for them. The meal was served with a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
Everyone came out on the deck to see a magnificent show of clouds revealing the rising moon. The clouds created dozens of images we all tried to summon with our imagination. (The alcohol did not hurt either.) The evening was complete with another single malt and Cuban cigar Douglas had mistakenly brought over. (One would be a mistake, but a carton?)
Friday we all headed down to the beautiful Thanksgiving Point Gardens, just minutes from the house. The cool fall air made a wonderful environment to observe the thousand of plants and trees on the 20 plus acre property. It was a great day. We then went to the huge sporting goods store called Scheels. (Yes Bob S., se had to see the colossal building, but we did not buy much.) While being very impressed, we all left with the feeling that it was over helming and a bit like a sporting goods mall than a store. We were disappointed.
Dinner consisted of some Macaroni and Cheese (A new food favorite on Mr. Nash.) with homemade chicken salad sandwiches. We did serve a nice white wine with the dinner then the guys retired to the deck once more to greet the evening stars.
Saturday, I read Barron's on my Kindle and as promised, took Man Child to our new favorite breakfast eatery Virg's. The boys all enjoyed a hearty breakfast before heading up to the house and enjoying some Premier League Futball. West Ham was playing Douglas's team Arsenal. Then we caught some American College Gridiron.
All of us got in a hired car and were joined by our friends Brian and Elizabeth to visit a scene of a crime. We all went to La Caille where our daughter Kristin and her wonderful husband Ryan were betrothed one year and one week ago. After a rough start with the service (which Devin addressed without getting us escorted from the building), we enjoyed a fabulous meal.
There was a spectacular Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand and we also enjoyed a couple bottles of 2005 Quilcenda Creek Cabernet. I had the most unusual appetizer. It was a foie gras martini. The took a delicious foie gras and slivered it and served it in a martini glass with some hearty beef stock. Absolutely amazing.
The evening closed with Dennis, Douglas, and I enjoying way too much single malt and talking to the wee hours of the morning.
That late night made the drive to Park City the next day a refreshing shot of high altitude clean air. We went shop my shop taking a casual stroll through he old mining turned ski turned international film festival venue. We finished our visit with a late lunch early dinner at a popular bistro. The meal was terrific and it was an appropriate end to a phenomenal impromptu weekend.
Here are a few shots of the trip.
Devin shot this as we were finishing up in Park City.
Some stranger took this of us at Thanksgiving Point Gardens
I shot this of us all cozy on the deck after dinner.
We will give some market insight in our post for tomorrow.
