Me And My Gal

Nine hours and fifty nine minutes. That was how long it took for all of us to arrive in our place in Utah. Just me and my lovely wife inside of a car for nine hours and fifty nine minutes.

We talked about investing and I now know 349 places where we can't invest money. We still not have agreed on any place we can put money. We went through at least 27 doomsday scenarios and they all ended the same way, all our money would be gone.

But that only took up about an hour of the nine hours and fifty nine minutes of the drive. Our first stop was just inside the Nevada border, Jean to be exact. It was 108 degrees (not as hot as Mohave Valley, AZ at 115 at the same time) but it did not feel as warm as home at 95 degrees.

After fueling both cars and letting the dogs out, we were on the road in one of our fastest pit stops ever. There was no traffic in Las Vegas, very unusual. We then made it all the way to Beaver, Utah after hitting a couple of refreshing rain storms. It was a nice 68 degrees. We pulled in at about 8:30 pm and enjoyed a bowl of soup.

Today, Devin forced me to go fishing. She said, "Honey, now that you are officially retired, I think you should enjoy yourself and spend the day fishing. You deserve it and it would be a wonderful way for you to celebrate your accomplishments of the last 18 years."

Well, I think that is what she said or at least that is what I heard. Perhaps, when I asked what we were doing today, she said, "I don't know? Are you going to go fish?"

Anyway, Dennis Jack and I went to the middle Provo to scare up some trout. It was a different river from what we left a month ago. Irrigation demands from below forced them to drop the level in Jordanelle Reservoir which means flooding the middle Provo.

What that means to us fly fisherman was that the water was high, fast and butt ass cold. I am guessing about 40-42. It made the 5 hours we were out there a bit of a challenge. Dennis caought a few juvies, but Jack and struck out. To his credit, he was sitting on shore tieing his own flies on his tippet. Way to go Jack. We will get them next time.

We made it home just in time to put some dogs on the BBQ and enjoy a scotch with Devin. It was a good day. Oh yeah, remember that motor home we told you about last month, Devin went and put a hold on it for tomorrow. Looks like we are back at being trailer trash. Where the heck are we going to park it?

Who Is Paul Ryan

A few of you have asked about Paul Ryan.  In an effort of full disclosuer, his brother Tobin was a regualr visitor to our Board of Director's meeting at PADI.  Tobin is sharp and articulate.

If you remember a while cak I was all excited because Tobin got me a signed copy of the "Path To Prosperity" buget propsal.  (I have two of them now.)

From a strategic stand point it is probably a good move.  He is a Catholic so that will takes some of the "Mormon's Eat Their Young" worrys off the ticket.  He is a fiscal conservative (which we desparately need) and that might make some of the tea party weirdos happy.  he is more conservative than Romney which is not bad thing.  He is young will help because the last thing the GOP needs right now is another old white guy.  Ryan's famliy is adorable and that never hurts.

The first litmus will be fairfax County Virginia which I believe is September 4, 2012.  If the ticket shows well there, President Obama has a battle on his hands.  If they show weak, I am afraid we are in for four more year of leaderless politcal quagmires, higher taxes (for all), and a political ideologist that does not have to worry about surviving another election.

How Is The Week Starting

We said the market would be up about .75% on Monday and it did finish up, but shy of that mark. Today we said the market would be down and it was flat. Let's take a look at the causes.

China was a downer for the market on Monday and that kept a boring market from gaining a little headway. Today the PPI did come in a little higher than expected, but Mr. Market did not overreact. We suggested retail numbers would come in stronger than anticipated and we got that correct. We also got Business Inventories correct as we suggest they would be down a bit to 0% and they ended up at .1%, we will take that as a win.

I got Germany numbers correct, but France came in netter than exptected.  Greece asked for an extension of their austerity program.  OMG what a surprise that is?  The market took it all is tride and went sideways.

THE GREEN FLAS is still sailing.

Did anybody notice we are on post 695.  5 more till number 700.  Yes 700 blogs since October 2009.  That is an estimated 1,400,000 words, and some of them are actually mine?

I am not a professional investment advisor. Anybody reading my blog and investing accordingly must be out of their minds. I have made more money than I have lost. There are many more qualified people than I to actually tell you how to invest your money.
