We had a great weekend. Daughter and Son-in-law went a way for a weekend Marriage retreat. My lovely wife offered to watch their dog Captain. Now you might remember, Devin is recuperating from knee surgery. I'll let you ponder that a moment. She offered to watch Captain, while she is still a little immobilized from her surgery. Now Captain can be a 60 pound ball of energy if you don't walk him, play ball with him, or sedate him with an Elvis cocktail. (Percocet, Quaaludes, and Demerol). Well, Devin is not walking well enough to walk with him and playing ball with him is out of the question too. She did come home with Percocet, but did not score Demerol or Ludes.
Friday night was a long night. We took the dogs out about 10:00PM. Captain wanted a repeat performance at midnight. Despite my best effort of ignoring the beast, Devin would not get out of bed to take the dog out. (Something about a meniscus and ACL and crutches, wha wha wha!). So I unhooked my Darth Vader breathing device and took Mr. Happy out back. I stood there in my T shirt and underwear and slippers and Captain looked at me as if to say, "It's midnight, what the hell are we doing out here?" I suggested he get some water and then he disappeared somewhere in the back yard and came back with a stuffed toy.
We were back upstairs by 12:10. At 2:17, (Sorry I have a digital clock.) Mr. Captain was talking to me, very quietly on my side of the bed. The polite little wine was his way of telling me not to wake up Devin as she is recuperating from Knee surgery. I took off my mask, donned my T-shirt and slippers, and walked cute little Captain down stairs and into the back yard. He stared at me as if to say, "Grandpa Dude, we were just out here a couple of hours ago. Are you suffering from Over Active Bladder disorder?"
We were back upstairs by 2:23. At 4:34, I heard a collar make a shaking noise and hoped . . . but no, it was Captain Gottago. T-Shirt, Slippers, Browning 9MM, (just kidding) and we were in the back yard again. I ignored him this time and went over to check on Devin's herbs, which I could not see in the damp darkness of night. I went looking for General Goofy, but could not find him. After rounding the sunroom, I heard a noise in the sunroom by the back entrance to house. There he be lookin' at me as if to say, "Come on man, it's cold and I'm tired. Can we go back in?"
Then he let me sleep all the way to 7:46 am. By this time I had cancelled my breakfast meet with the guys as I would undoubtedly have to bring Captain. (He is currently not a member.) I believe I sent a text message at 6:29 AM informing the gang I would not be there. Why 6:29, I think Captain had programmed me for every two hours.
So I rose, took all the dogs out, fed them, but I was not sure what food to give Captain. I fed all of ours and then dared to go upstairs to the Queen and ask what kind of food Captain inhaled. The whole time I am walking through the house to find the answer to my question, this big ball of fur is actually chewing on my fingers. I mean they were very gentle, but he was actually chewing and mouthing my fingers.
He got fed, I got a spot of tea and enjoyed my Barron's for a few minutes and then Devin came down wearing swimming apparel as Saturday was her first day of total immersion or would we say submersion. She could get her sutures wet.
I was not going to have another evening like that so I told Devin I was going to run some errands and take Captain for walk around the local Lake. After running the errands, it was such a beautiful day, there was about 8,000 people walking around the lake. I chose to take Captain on trail. Now that could be risky because there are mountain lions and coyotes on this trail, which made me think. I stopped at the grocery store and got one pound of bacon. Once we got on the trail, I put the bacon under Captain's collar, Ooooops, daydream. Very vivid daydream.
No Captain and I took a nice long walk on trail. I headed back to the car actually kind of jogging and still that animal found its way back to the car. He did sleep good Saturday night.
Devin and I had very relaxing Saturday after the trip to the great outdoors. She got in some good swim time and I got a little PADI work done and then we watched a couple of movies in the afternoon. Having Devin laid up is working out pretty good. We ordered up some Italian and we had a nice night.
Today we took on the Mobile Mini storage container and won. Yes we emptied the container and got everything into the garage and almost organized. Devin actually got to park her car in the garage. I offered to do it, but she almost chop blocked me with a crutch to get to park that in the new garage. It took about 6 hours, but everything is out of the container and we are calling tomorrow to have it removed.
In honor of that moment, I fixed us both fried egg sandwiches. Jack had some chicken fingers. (I don't get that as chickens do not have fingers, but I digress.)
Kristin and Ryan got back from the marriage retreat. Ya know when you look up the word retreat, it means to "withdraw from enemy forces as a result of their superior power or after a defeat." Heck I do that everyday. Devins's forces are much superior to mine. Ryan will one day figure out Kristin's are much superior to his and then he won't have to go on retreat and he can watch Captain.
So let's retreat into the action from the week and what kind of action we might see this coming week.
