Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back Into Your Garage

First of let me say I was disappointed as I cleaned up my list of readers and I had two that I did not know which brough me to 51 readers. These were people who saw the blog somewhere and signed up. Now I know every single reader and I like it that way. They were sent an e-mail asking to identify themselves. They chose not to so I eliminated them from the list. (They were opening it everyday.) But that brought the readership below 50 and I just couldn't handle that, so I put my Uncle Charles on the list today. If you can't spam your family, who can you spam. Now that I think about it I have had 5 cousins who stopped reading it and 1 dropped off and one cousin who actually took their name off the list. (I thought Kathleen liked me?) My own sister did not want to get it? Thank God Aunt Kay reads it although she is not necessarily fond of my political persuasions. So Uncle Charles, welcome aboard.

So there I am, Jack is eating breakfast and I decided to adjust the exterior lights for the change of daylight savings time. I noticed a little pond of water in our single garage. I followed the puddle and discovered it came from behind a wall that lead to a closet. I checked the closet and NO WATER. Mmmmm. I then started thinking that they fooled with our master bedroom fireplace about a couple of months ago. Maybe there was an issue with the tiles or flashing around the chimney. (My wife love's it when I use construction words. Who am I kidding, she does not even read this thing and recently asked to be removed. OUCH!)

After calling our contractor who was on the way and getting Jack to school, I waited and waited trying to figure out the cause of the puddle. Jeff showed up and he got a look at what was going on. He too assumed it might be the chimney so I was good to go and get showered and head to the salt mines at PADI.

About 9:45 I get a call from Devin. She had bad news. All of our windows on the east side of the house were leaking after our recent rain storm. It is a long story, but the foundation slab to our home floated during our flood of Dec 2010 and is still settling. As a result, out 17 year old windows are now adjusting. Since they were plastic framed (Popular for that day and age) the flashing and wrapping was not as extensive as you might find today. The seepage has caused much of our crown molding and wainscoting to crack and bulge. We are looking at a complete rebuild of our office and family room walls including all the finish work we just had completed.

Needless to say, that is now how you want a day to start, but it did. After I got that news, I took care of some mail and was working on details for my lunch with Mit tomorrow. State Senator Mimi Walter's called last week to ask if we would like to have Lunch with Governor Mitt Romney and his wife Ann. I said we would love to.

She sent over the invite and as imagined it was going to be expensive chicken something. There were two levels of donations. The higher level entitled you to have you picture taken with the Romneys. I had already had my picture taken with President Obama over the weekend for only two dollars, so what they were charging for a picture with Mitt seemed a bit steep. I sent a note back to Senator Walter's and said Devin and I will love to be there at the lower price level and if Mitt and Ann want their picture taken with us I would not charge them. She thought that was hilarious.

We will let you know how the lunch goes.

After lunch, Devin called to tell me Man Child was not feeling well and she was headed over to pick him up from school. This is really turning out to be a great day. I am headed up to Utah this weekend for the first time since the wedding and only the second time since the flood. The idea is I get to clean out all the mice gonkers and make sure everything is in working order for our first family holiday in almost two years over Easter break.

Now the day was not a total loss as my son in law found out he has a new job. We went to this really nice restaurant to celebrate. Perhaps you have heard of it. It is called Hanna's and I had not been there in minutes.  Dinner was great.  Devin and Ryan had a shot of 25 year old McCallans and I suffered threw some regualr 12 year old single malt.  Dinner was great and as usual the service was phenom.

Before it gets much later, let's get to the stock stuff.

Bernanke Wobbles But . . .

Now first I must say that I got a few notes about the swedish analysis I presented last night about Go Away In May.  I do not have any idea what he was trying to say, but thought I would scare you with some statistical gymnastics that would scare the bejeebers out of you.  For those of you still working on the formulas, it was a joke.  There as a real doctorate paper, but it had nothing to do with Go Away In May.

Here was the portfolio summary I sent to the Salve Lucrum Family folk after the close today.

Boys And Girls;

Am I good or what. I called it at 1.2% and it was 1.23%. Ok, forget the fact I said it would be down 1.2% and that it was actually up 1.23%. Except for that, am I amazing or what.

In a bit of a reversal, Bernanke goosed the market this morning by saying our recovery was iffy and another round of QE Quantitative Easing (Fed speak for printing more money to buy our own treasury bonds and probably leaving interest rates alone a while) was not out of the question. Mmmm, about a week ago he implied there was no dire need for more QE.

Now my guesses about home sales and the Dallas Manufacturers survey were spot on, but no one wanted to hear about that, just the fact that the Fed MIGHT print more money got everyone all hot and bothered. Volume was decent today so if this was a head fake by the Fed, they also fooled the Casino Managers.

Let's take a quick look at the core holding for any anomalies.

MSFT

Outperformed a bit today. With a little digging I discovered that a recent shift in personnel may be a tell of some interesting things to come. They moved David Cutler Operations guru and MS genius to the XBOX campus and their new Xbox 720 due for release later this year is supposed to take on a few Apple products. We'll see, but it might explain why the stock is at a 4 year high.

XOM

Up in line with the commodity and a little better than the market.

CELG

Better than the market, but no relevant news. (Again)

MGRC

A little off the market. No news.

AAPL

In line with the market. Gobs of news, but none that seem relevant.

ACET

No news and it did not stay up with the market today. This stock is definitely flying below the radar. This should be $11-11.50.

LMT

It performed a little below the market today so we add some shares on the weakness.
