Sorry if you missed us last night. You ask who is us? Well, we use the proverbial "us" and "we" because it seems less annoying than me and I all the time. It not that I am not egocentric (Just ask some friends.) it just makes it feel like all these voices in my head are working together for a common goal.
Yesterday we had to wait at home for a dishwasher guy. We (I) had to do this because we are at the point of returning the expensive appliance and there is a fear the that there maybe violence if Devin has to wait for one more visit by an appliance technician.
We waited patiently for the guy and got caught up on e-mails and mid month reports to see how things were going in PADI land. We also got caught up on the details from our big trade show DEMA. All is well.
Dennis, the factory technician showed up and told me all about his visit to the factory in Alabama where they make all the fine Viking Products (Except the drawer opening microwave that is made by someone else but I can not tell you that.) He looked at the dishwasher and told me I was using too much of the wrong kinda dish soap. Mmmm, 11 million for a dishwasher and its not working because we put 93 more grains of Cascade that we should have?
Needless to say after he left and we had to tell Devin that she had to cut back on the soap and use some Lemonee non-spot additive, there was violence. She will be meeting Dennis soon. Not a good day for Dennis.
But then it was off to work and a nice lunch meeting with a couple of our employees at Hanna's. We had that salad we are not supposed to talk about, you know the one with the (Ben look out the window it's a Barn Owl) Burratta cheese, prosciutto ham, and poached pear.
Then it was back to the office for the market closing at 1:00. More on that later. We then had a meeting with the fine folk who run the office here in the Americas. They are having a great year and really growing the business.
About that time, Devin called me and told me that our daughter Kristin was have a bit of an medical emergency, and out of privacy for her we won't give the details, but she works on the Warner Bros. studio lot and we suggested she head over to the Lot Fire Department. All we could picture was the old TV show emergency from the 70s. (We just dated our self and yes that was filmed at Universal-sue me.)
Kristin decided she would take the rest of the day off and head down our way so Mom could take care of her. Wait a minute, we just got rid of her by marrying her off. What happen to richer or poorer and sickness and health? Ryan, what is she doing laying across our couch? But I digress. She is doing better.
Devin and enjoyed a nice meal of left over meatloaf sandwiches. The good news is I am still on the wagon so the stress of matching a wine to a meatloaf sandwich was off my shoulder.
Then it was upstairs to play with my new Toy. The Kindle Fire. It should up and it took a lot of restraint to wait till the paper plates were tossed before we opened the Amazon box. The set up was easy and there are some pros and cons to the new kindle. We are loyal avid fans of the Kindle II. We currently have 54 books, newspapers, and magazines archived on our Kindle II.
The fire is much more than the Kindle II. It is a brave attempt to catch up with the iPad. They came about half way there. Mmmm it is half the price. It has a reasonably efficient browser, very good screen emulation, sleek design, an OK wireless set up. On the down side it seems to suck up the battery FAST and the glare off the screen is a bit distracting. We will continue to play with the thing but my gut reaction is, if you want a cool toy for browsing and reading and access to abundant content and you can't afford the $400 for the bottom rung of the iPad, this is a great alternative. If you can afford it go for the iPad. If you just want to read, stick with the Kindle II.
Then we worked on some English Vocab with Man Child. The we started the blog but it was already 11:35 and NOTHING really happened yesterday in the market. So we said, "Goodnight John Boy"
Today we got jack off to work and continued to play with our Kindle Fire, this time from the perspective of using the platform for some of PADI's digital products. Again I felt myself thinking that the iPad is the best way to go. We took of some other PADI business, kept tabs on the wife and daughter and had a great lunch with our President and COO who gave me lowdown on just how well the DEMA went.
We got back to the office to have our biannual 401 K meeting to discuss our fund performance and make sure we had the best of best offerings (as possible) for our employees. I take this meeting very seriously as we enjoy the subject and our plan administrator are professional.
We slogged through a few more meetings in the afternoon and had the pleasure of having dinner with my buddy Ben who was in town wrapping up a few items for the their office closing here in Califoirnia. Devin, Jack and I joined him at Hanna's and all the servers came over for some sugar. Even Dave the man came over to high five and fist pump the Benster. We had brought a nice bottle of 2006 Joseph Phelps Insignia, but Ben already had a glass of wine, Devin doesn't do Cabs and I was on the wagon so I suggested Dave put it on the new wine locker in the new Hanna's expansion due to open any day now. As far as I know, I have the first bottle of wine in our personalized wine locker's in the new wing of Hanna's. It was a great meal and I hope I get to see Ben again before he heads HOME to South Carolina.
We got home and we worked with Jack on more English Vocab till about 10:15 then we started writing the blog tonight. So now let's see what went on in Mr. Markets little casino of blind folded monkeys.
