BAGAKOAA; 10 November 2011 The Bounce Bounced Over Us

It is 9:43 as we start the night blog so you know what that means. Short, sweet, to the point and no art.

We had an early office call this morning so no swimming and a rush to get in so we could head up the freeway to LA for a meeting. Yeah, can't tell you or we'd have to kill you, but the meeting went well. After the meeting Gary P. our CFO and I had lunch. You know we don't like to brag, but you got two successful guys prowling the streets of LA able to afford the finest establishments you could imagine so we went all out. On Century Boulevard by the airport we found a really great place with Spanish mission motif and an amazing ambience. I know I would like this place so being the shooter I am, I told Gary it was my treat. We saw our menus at the very same time and with little hesitation we walked right up to the counter and ordered lunch at Taco Bell. Yes it was truly Life Styles of the Rich and Famous.

We got back to the office and rammed a couple hours work in 35 minutes and took a call from one of readers who was not too upset I mentioned they lived in Wiley Coyote Land in Arizona. Sorry Butch and Deb. I have visited there beautiful home and never once saw Wiley Coyote or Road Runner.

Then we snuck out and witnessed one of the best High School Football games we have ever scene. It was Santa Margarita versus Servite Freshman A team. Truly incredible game. SMCHS won in the last 10.1 seconds by blocking a field goal attempt by Servite that would have put them ahead by two points. The final score was SMCHS 36 Servite 35, Great breathtaking game from kick till the last whistle. What a way to end the season.

At the end of the game, the boys always do this really cool precision drill. This week there was a special feature. To the surprise of the team and the coaches about 20 moms got out on the filed and did a precision drill of their own. Of course Devin was out there showing that even the oldest mom on the field could still put some of those younger Coto De Caza Moms to shame. Go Girl. (She looked fine out there. No I am not writing that because she reads this, actually her reading this is a rarity, she really did look fine.)

Jack wanted to go to the local pizza place where the rest of the team was hanging. I picked up a sandwich and headed home and watched Carlson Palmer SMCHS Quarter Back 1994-98, pull off a much needed win for the Oakland Raiders against the SD Chargers. I had San Diego in the game, but it was nice to see a local boy put together some nice passes.

By the time I picked up Man Child, it was time for me to start this here blog. That was for my buddy Ben who has been in the woods of South Carolina more than a week now and I thought I would slip in some of the local vernacular.

Ok Now The Bounce That Wasn't

Believe it or not, our portfolios took a bigger hit today than yesterday. We actually had two positions that hit our sell marks, but we did not make it back to the office before the closing. BPI and CYAN are each showing losses in execs of our 8% stop. We will be up early on Monday to watch the pre-market action.

So what happened today?

We expected the market to be perceived as oversold, and when we left for the office this morning about 6:25 AM, the Index futures were all smiling nicely on the day. The Italian yields had lowered and we had a decent jobs report so the market started out OK. Unfortunately there was little volume. There were just not enough buyers who felt good about the quasi-promising news out of Europe. Then apparently there was a mistaken rumor the French debt was getting downgraded which spooked the market. GOOG and AAPL brought down the NASDAQ for no apparent reason. All in all it was a lackluster day and the anemic bounce bounced right over our entire portfolio. It was a stinger today, but I am living in the now so it does not matter.

Remembrance Day

It was the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month in the year of our Lord 1918 when World War I came to a conclusion. A war to end all wars, or so they said. Remembrance is celebrated all over the world. We knew here as Armistice Day until the mid 1950s when a guy by the name of Alvin King moved to recognize military personnel from all wars including WW II and the name was changed to Veterans Day. We salute all men and women who have valiantly served our nation to allow us the freedoms and the opportunities we currently enjoy. To those here today and those gone before thank you.
