Momma Is Back In The Building

Devin and the three little dogs got home last in time for some fast food. We had decided to have Jack In The Box. I am addicted to their Cheeseburger Deluxe. It is my favorite fast food burger at the moment. My favorite burger is Dave Hanna's OC burger. It is one of the very best all time burgers I have ever had. There was a mafia frequented place on Eastern and Twain in Las Vegas that had a burger maybe a bit better, but that was when Las Vegas had organized crime versus the unorganized crime of today. All Dave needs is a few shady customers hanging around. Oh yeah that would be me, Ben, Lionel, Rudy, and Freddy to name a few. But I digress.

I think I mentioned we have the pleasure of watching our daughter's dog this week. Captain aka Craptain or Dufuss, did a funny thing the other night. I had taken the dogs out for a walk. I will occasionally let them run on the golf course. (I hope Alisson the membership manager is not reading this.) When I let them go off the leash, I always keep treats in my pocket. Like me, they usually don't stray too far from food. (Kristin, one of the beautiful servers at Hanna's keeps 6 oz filets in her pocket for those night I get a little wieldy and need to coax me back into my bar stool. Then she puts out a bowl of Glenlivet and pats me on my head. Works every time.) Anyway after the walk, I had some treats left in my pocket. I gave one to Max and one to Jaycee and then Captain must have thought my nose was a dog treat as he jumped and grabbed my nose in his teeth. I went back down to the floor where he realized his error. He apologized and was rewarded with the actual treat.
Now 5 dogs is fun, but I can't wait as later next week, we have another dog coming to watch. Her name is Lady and she is the nicest easiest going Yellow Lab you ever saw. Yes their owners are readers of the blog, but in reality, Lady is easy to watch and take care of.
Now Devin was wiped out after a stressful week before the wedding, a great wedding, and then a stressful week of picking up the pieces of the post wedding agenda. (She had two cars giver her grief as well.) This was going on as I was sitting in California just kickin back and enjoying myself. (by comparison) I thought I would try and let her sleep in a bit this morning so last night (That is why the post was so late.) I would get lunch ready for Jack and do the Football laundry (When you go to Santa Margarita High you capitalize Football, it's a religious thing.) and get the dog food ready for the morning so my lovely wife could relax. Well Devin is about as good as my dad at relaxing. He has been gone since 2003 and is just now starting to relax. Devin was up at 6:00 discovering all the clothes that Jack and I worked so hard to hide in his football bag. It took us a full week to fill that bag with all that clothes and she just pulled it out in a matter of seconds. She did not have to say anything either. I was enjoying my Cheerios and blueberries and she said, "Brian." And I walked around the pantry in the kitchen and there she was standing over the pile of clothes like a Loyalist standing over the beheaded remains of Oliver Cromwell. (Hey, I am throwing a bone to the audience across the pond. There are two or three people in the UK laughing their butts off right now.)
The rest of the day was fairly relaxing for Devin. Unpacking, doing laundry, walking the dogs, vacuuming, running up to Long Beach California to Jack's football game, just a normal relaxing day for my lovely wife.
During the day we got a text from Man Child. He aced a series of Spanish Tests. Way to go Jack. He then traveled to Los Alamitos High School where the eagles put the womp on Los Al, 49-13. Oh yeah that is what I am talking about. Jack got to play on the A team for the last part of the fourth quarter. Life is good.
Much to my surprise, Devin decided she wanted to go out to dinner tonight. My east coast bound buddy Ben whom I normally have dinner with was available so we made it a threesome at Hanna's. I brought a 2005 Nickel & Nickel Pinot Noir Spring Hill Vineyard and it was really big. I asked Ben to take a guess at the varietal and he was thinking a Cab or a Zin. My guess would have been a Zin because this Pinot was big. It had slap your face florals on the nose and Oaks working as well. I had just read a good article in Wine Spectator about the Pinots of the Russian River area. I do not think this was a good example as it was huge. I got cherries and currant and some minerals. Don't get me wrong, it was a good wine, but not what I was expecting. If you can hunt down a bottle of the 05 or the 06 Manzana N&N, I would give it a swig. We got home by 9:00 and wrapped the evening. I made a commitment tonight to share the ride to South Carolina later this month as Devin did not want him riding alone. We just can't figure out if I am Thelma or Loise. There should be some interesting posts coming out of that trip!
