Vancouver Yoga Center Newsletter

SW Washington's Premier Yoga Center & School
Vancouver Yoga Center

Greetings!

Sunny Hello's from all of us at the Center,

It's been 6 months since our last newsletter. Things have been busy over here. We've been transitioning some new Teachers into the Center as well as adding new classes. I've been prepping for the Yoga Teacher training and Yoga Therapy training that starts in September. I've also thrown in a 10 day retreat and training in breathing techniques for myself over the last few months. I'm excited and hopeful to share with you more of my experience with that training. Look for more articles to come in the next few months.

Please check out the latest classes, upcoming events and special offers in this issue.

I look forward to sharing more with you down the road.

Starting Friday Aug 3rd Karen Kessler, Graduate of our teacher training program and long time Licensed Massage/shiatsu practitioner in Vancouver, will be offer a
Gentle Yoga class from 5:30-6:45pm.

In this class you'll learn gentle yoga poses. If you've wanted to try yoga but are uncertain whether you're strong enough, flexible enough or if you're dealing with injury or pain issues, this may be the class for you. We will be taking time to explore how to modify poses so you can practice within your limitations. Many poses can be done in a chair for those who can not easily transition up and down from the floor. Along with the poses we'll be working on our breathing. We'll finish with supported restorative poses.
This class will be 13 drop-in or normal studio package rates.

Starting Fall term Sara Carter, also a graduate of our teacher training program will be starting a Prenatal yoga class on Tuesdays from 7:15-8:15pm $13 drop-in or normal studio package rates. As there is little offering of this specialty class of yoga in our area please help spread the word to anyone you know who may be expecting.

Many of you have been students for years at the Center. We would be very grateful if you could take a few minutes to write a review of your experience at the center on our Yelp or Google page. This may be with Yoga, Massage or the Teacher Training program. This would greatly help us get the word out of what we do here at the Center. As a gift back to you for taking the time to do this we are offing a $15 credit towards your next series of yoga classes or a $15 credit off your next massage.

Thank you so much for being apart of this community and keeping it alive for over 13 years now!!

Yoga Potluck Outdoor Picnic Party

It's been ages since we have all gotten together and done our annual to biannual potluck party.

Ideas started circling at the center that we should have a end of the summer blow out potluck party. Added to that was the idea to hold it outside for the first time.

Please Join us on Saturday August 18th from 12-3pm at  Carter Park, 33rd & Columbia. Bring a dish, something you like to drink, a blanket or lawn chair, sunscreen, hats and the kids!

See you there.

Yoga Training Programs

The deadline is just around the corner for our upcoming 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program. Applications are due by August 8th 2012 for Program starting on September 8th 2012.

If you're interested or would like more information on the program please get in touch with me soon. There are many of you that I know are not interested in teaching but are interested in going deeper into the philosophy of yoga. Also, you would like to get more rooted in all of the alignment principles and all around you're desiring to immerse yourself in yoga and the many practices that you can incorporate into your life that will aid in your well being and peace of mind. For those of you that are just desiring to dive in and might not ever teach, I highly recommend this chance to further explore the practice you've been so committed to for all these years. You'll walk away with a bounty of tools and information that you can add to your life.

Those who are already teachers I've designed a continuing education program diving into the use of yoga as a therapeutic tool for injuries and alignment issues in the body.
You can get more information on this Program on the website for Yoga as Structural Therapy. Program Starts September 15th 2012. Application deadlines are due by August 15th 2012.

Lynn Purdy goes to the Dominican Republic

Our lovely yoga teacher Lynn Purdy will be heading to the Dominican Republic at end of August with a local program called Evergreen4Kids. This is a grassroots organization based out of Longview, WA. Lynn has been working with them for the past two years going down to the village of Habanero in the Dominican Republic to teach english to the children and adults. She'll be going down there this year to set up an ongoing program that allows children and adults to continue to study English during the rest of the year when she is not there.

Lynn is collecting items to bring with her for these children and families. There is a box at the studio that will be there until August 30th. We're collecting gently used summer clothes for kids and adults, shoes, children's books, coloring books and spanish/english dictionaries.

If you would like to donate financially you can do so through Evergreen$Kids website @ http://evergreen4kids.org/html/donations.html

If you would like to speak to Lynn directly about her work overseas or how you might be able to join in the next trip next year, please email her directly @ avalonyogawellness@gmail.com
