Check out the information sheet below to help us identify the invasive Rauvolfia Vomitoria plant, which has already infested upwards of 3,000 acres of Kohala.  Let's control this superweed before it spreads to other areas of the Big Island! Inform office staff of any suspected Rauvolfia plants you encounter at 'Iole.

So far, 2011 has been a year full of exciting developments and new beginnings at 'Iole!

If you wish to catch up and understand more about all that has been unfolding, we have assembled a list of Frequently Asked Questions with answers that we hope reflect the spirit of 'Iole's mission and values.

Along with spectacular hiking trails and All Terrain Vehicles tours (through ATV Outfitters), a new and thrilling opportunity is available to those who want to explore and learn about 'Iole: zipline tours with Big Island Eco Adventures II! This one of a kind zipline experience offers fascinating ecological and cultural information at every stop, "talk story" with engaging local guides, and a rare bird's eye view of the relatively inaccessible Waianaia gulch.

'Iole is also honored to be host to the 27th Annual Kohala Country Fair, will take place Saturday, October 1st on the makai (ocean-side) of Akoni Pule Highway. KCF is a fun-filled community event and Kohala tradition, and another ideal opportunity enjoy the unique character of and the rich agricultural history of this area. Hats off to the KCF association and to the local ranchers and farmers perpetuating Kohala's country heritage!

On the mauka (mountain) side of 'Iole, hikers may have already noticed the addition of a new agricultural component to 'Iole's long history of farming: a food garden. 'Iole welcomes Peter Risley, farmer extraordinaire, to these lands, and we all look forward to learning and tasting more from his commitment to a sustainable livelihood!

Stay tuned for information about guided tours of trails and

Historical District, which are currently in development, and visit our Exhibit Center, now being established adjacent to 'Iole's offices.

We are tremendously grateful for all of the volunteers and collaborators who are contributing to the life of the land at 'Iole.
