Check out the information sheet below to help us identify the invasive Rauvolfia Vomitoria plant, which has already infested upwards of 3,000 acres of Kohala.  Let's control this superweed before it spreads to other areas of the Big Island! Inform office staff of any suspected Rauvolfia plants you encounter at 'Iole.

It's been an exciting start to 2011 here at 'Iole. Much is in the works to provide engaging adventures in learning about stewardship.

On March 10th, the 1st grade students from Kohala Elementary enjoyed a fun filled morning at 'Iole while seeing firsthand the work Island Harvest does to care for and farm hundreds of acres of organic macadamia nut orchards.

In February, our first Volunteer Day of the year was well attended and extremely productive. The team made an astonishing amount of progress in a matter of hours! See pictures below!

Six more Volunteer Days have been scheduled for 2011. We hope you will note the dates listed below, attend when you can, and help us spread the word about these opportunites for trail stewardship.

Many of you who may wish to contribute to'Iole's trails and projects may not able to be present on Volunteer Days. We're pleased to announce that you can now make a gift to 'Iole right from your computer, anywhere in the world, anytime. Online donations are now accepted through justgive.org!

Whenever you make it to 'Iole next, be sure to ask about our expanded trail options and guided tours, which are now being developed.  Also, stay tuned for information on an 'Iole membership program, with exciting member benefits including discounts on activities and products from our local partner organizations.

On March 10th, Kohala students from the first grade classes of Mrs.  Ito, Ms. O'Malley, and Mrs. Carpenter were bussed to 'Iole for the chance to visit Island Harvest's organic macadamia nut orchard.

After enjoying demonstrations of harvesting, mowing, and composting procedures and seeing Island Harvest's big equipment in action, the kids were treated to a "mac snack," before they continued on to Kawaihae to learn about the processing end of mac nut production.
