Thanks for coming out for
Heineken with a Heart
to support STAR/PAL!
Outback Steakhouse Mission Valley & Hieneken USA hosted a two-night fundraiser in July which raised over $5,000 to benefit inner-city youth who participate in our programs.
Guests made a $20 donation at the door and were treated to an evening of complimentary Outback appetizers, opportunity drawings, live DJ music, and ice cold Heineken brands!
We are very grateful to Outback Steakhouse Mission Valley (and their fantastic staff!), Heineken USA, OSI Restaurant Partners, and STAR/PAL board member Duke Stewart from T-Bird Restaurant Group for making this happen! |

Greetings!
Thanks to the unwavering commitment of our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, supporters, sponsors, and donors...STAR/PAL has had the opportunity to substantially expand its programming, community outreach, and partnerships. As we have grown, we have struggled with finding resources to assist us in sustaining our expanding efforts. Bank of America's Neighborhood Builders Award strengthens the capacity and infrastructure of nonprofit organizations and promotes the leadership development of their executives. Awardees are provided with $100,000 in support annually for two years. In addition, the executive director and an emerging leader from each nonprofit participate in a leadership development program during the first year of funding. We are thrilled to announce that STAR/PAL is the fortunate recipient of this award for 2011! We are so grateful to Bank of America for recognizing the importance of our mission, our efforts, and our future potential at a time when STAR/PAL is at a critical juncture as an organization. Each of you, as a STAR/PAL supporter, should know that this award is because of your contributions! STAR/PAL would not be what it is today without the dedication of so many. On behalf of the thousands of youth we serve, STAR/PAL thanks Bank of America from the bottom of our heart! Sincerely, Chandani Flinn, Esq. Executive Director, STAR/PAL |

Youth Baseball Camps Slide Into Home Plate!
|
CLICK HERE FOR MEDIA COVERAGE |
STAR/PAL teamed up with the San
Diego Padres to offer youth the opportunity to learn baseball fundamentals, meet a few Padres players, and attend a Padres game at PETCO Park during the summer months! Volunteers from City and County law enforcement agencies, as well as other partner agencies provided instruction to youth on how to complete basic baseball drills. Drills are designed to challenge the participant on a different skill set required to be successful in the game of baseball. Thanks to our partnership with the San Diego Padres, youth across San Diego have this great experience!
Jr. Chargers Football Camps Score Touchdowns!
With the NFL football season just starting, STAR/PAL begins its
season of Jr. Chargers Training camps in partnership with the San Diego Chargers. The camps are designed for beginner to intermediate level youth who have an interest in learning how to play football. These camps expose hundreds of boys and girls to the game while emphasizing the importance of academics, healthy choices and fitness, as well as promoting positive interaction with law enforcement officers.
Annual Surf Clinic Continues To Make A Splash!
With perfect San Diego weather, great surfing conditions, 45 volunteers, and 53 excited children, this year's surf clinic would be described in one word - spectacular! Youth participants from a variety of STAR/PAL programs and those selected from San Diego County Child Welfare Services enjoyed a day of fun, sun, and surfing all while interacting with volunteer law enforcement officers and surfing enthusiasts. Many youth learned about waters safety, the importance of taking care of our oceans, as well as how to surf for the very first time! |

2012 TRI-N-HARDER-4-KIDS
Indoor Triathlon
In Memory of Officer Jeremy Henwood
While on duty on Saturday, August 6th, Officer Jeremy Henwood stopped at a local McDonalds, and without knowing it, provided his last act of kindness when he purchased a cookie for a young boy who didn't have enough money. As he departed, Officer Henwood left that young boy with advice and words of encouragement to work hard to reach his goals. Like Jeremy, officers who share the passion to support youth in our community are invaluable and a key component to the existence of STAR/PAL. Thanks to our committed volunteers from local law enforcement agencies, STAR/PAL is able to provide over 10,000 youth services annually throughout the county of San Diego.
San Diego police officers & personnel will compete against one another on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center. Participants are asked to fundraise for this event and all proceeds will benefit STAR/PAL and the SDPOA Police Memorial Fund.
If you would like to sponsor an officer or the event, please contact STAR/PAL Officer Denise Mills at 619-533-5795 or drmills@pd.sandiego.gov. |
