MOBILE FASHION WEEK

This week-long showcase will feature numerous local boutiques as well as the talents of local models, designers and stylists. The event will culminate in a bridal runway show and a preview of the newest collection by Bradley Parnell, the winner of last year's Fashion Week design competition.
Cost: Tickets can be purchased for $20/show, $30/two-show special pass, $50/week for general admission and $100/week for VIP admission.

MOBILE COUNTY BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION CELEBRATES BOOK OF THE YEAR

Prize-winning author Watt Key will be speaking to local audiences about his young adults' book titled Alabama Moon, the Book of the Year selection by the Mobile County Bicentennial Commission. The public is invited to hear the author speak followed by a reception and book-signing. Alabama Moon is set in Alabama and features a young boy who has lived in isolation with his father for most of his life and then has to fend for himself after his father dies. His odyssey ends in Mobile County.

BAY AREA FOOD BANK'S 14TH ANNUAL CHEF CHALLENGE: A CHALLENGE TO END HUNGER

In honor of Hunger Action Month, the Bay Area Food Bank is hosting the 14th Annual Chef Challenge "A Challenge to End Hunger" presented by Trax Tires. The event will feature the favorite dishes of some of our area's most prestigious chefs, live entertainment by Roman Street, a large silent auction and complimentary wine and spirits. Funds raised by the annual Chef Challenge will provide millions of holiday meals to church and nonprofit partners as well as assist with numerous other nutrition programs.

SECOND ANNUAL STEPHEN SILLER TUNNEL TO TOWERS RUN
When: Sunday, September 9
Where: Beginning at Battleship Memorial Park, 2703 Battleship Parkway, Mobile
Mobile Bay is hosting the Second Annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run/Fun Run/Walk. Participants will start at USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park, run along the Causeway, through the Bankhead Tunnel, west on Government Street, north on Dearborn, and east on Dauphin Street to finish near the RSA BankTrust Tower in Bienville Square. There will also be a one mile walk. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run began in New York City following the 9/11 attacks as a way to memorialize New York firefighter Stephen Siller and 342 firefighters who died trying to save others on September 11, 2001. Mobile, Alabama is one of about 50 cities across the country participating in the run.

"The Conclusion of Edgar Allan Poe" - In Poe's last moments on earth, he recalls his life and some of the stories he wrote, including dramatizations of "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Cask of Amontillado," and several others. The 75-minute show, staged at the Playhouse, will run on October 26 & 27 at 7:30 p.m. with a Halloween costume party following the final show. SchoolFest performances are October 18, 19, 25, & 26 at 9 and 11 a.m.
"Babes in Toyland" - The Victor Herbert classic musical suitable for all ages. See all your favorite storybook characters come to life in a lavish production of this holiday favorite. Staged at the historic Saenger theatre, a cast of 100 will delight audiences with singing, dancing, and colorful costumes. The public show is Friday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. and the SchoolFest performances are December 6 & 7 at 9 and 11 a.m.

MOBILE COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS ANNUAL FARM TO TABLE DINNER
When: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 25
Where: Jon Archer Agricultural Center, 1070 Schillinger Road North, Mobile
Mobile County Master Gardeners, a program of the Cooperative Extension Service of Mobile County, will be hosting their inaugural Farm to Table Dinner to raise public awareness of the local agricultural and seafood community and to encourage the buy fresh/buy local concept. The evening will begin with appetizers and non-alcoholic specialty drinks in the Demonstration Gardens at the Jon Archer Center. There will be live music and tours of the Demonstration Gardens. Virginia Culinary School and Chef Wesley True have created a gourmet four-course dinner for your dining pleasure in the Main Hall. Each table will have a "celebrity food guest" to talk about eating seasonally and the link between our local farming community and our health.
All proceeds are being donated to the continued upkeep and expansion of the Demonstration Gardens at the Jon Archer Center, which are open to the public as teaching and learning gardens for Gulf Coast planting.

The Saint Vincent de Paul Society hosts this annual walk/run event to raise funds for their programming that provides food, bill assistance, and medical relief to more than 1,100 individuals locally. BAYFEST- ALABAMA'S LARGEST MUSIC FESTIVAL

BayFest will celebrate its 18th anniversary this year with an expected crowd of more than 200,000 guests, who will be Downtown Mobile to see over 125 live musical acts on nine stages during the weekend. BELLINGRATH GARDENS AND HOME FALL FLORAL SHOWCASE FEATURING JAMES FARMER

This year's event will feature James Farmer of James Farmer Designs located in Kathleen, Georgia. The day will include a floral demonstration by James, book signing with James and lunch with James and Bellingrath's own Dr. Bill Barrick. After lunch, the pair will lead a special tour through the Gardens to discuss the fall plants and how to use them in floral arrangements. The day will conclude with tours through the Bellingrath Museum Home featuring floral arrangements by some of the region's top floral designers.

BALLOON GLOW IN THE GARDENS

Dress up your little goblins and come out to enjoy beautiful hot air balloons glowing on the Great Lawn. Multiple hot air balloons are scheduled to "glow" for us this year-weather permitting. This year's event will also include a selection of scary and fun inflatables glowing throughout the Gardens. There will be plenty of treats and trinkets from area organizations and businesses for our trick or treaters to enjoy. The Shed BBQ and Blues Joint will be in the Gardens selling their one-of-a-kind and national award-winning barbeque and live music will be on the Great Lawn.
Cost: Special Admission: Adults $6, Children 5-12 $3; Children 4 and under are free. Discounted admission begins at 5 p.m.
