Its been a long hot summer with a lot of activity. The State Government shut down put a halt to the bridge repairs that were being done on the Root River Bike trail but now the OSMOSE Construction crew is back to work. They will be working on the #18 & #24 bridges between Lanesboro and Rushford but the Trail will not be closed during these repairs.
Earlier in the year the DNR began the process of installing new kiosk type signs for each of the Trail Head communities. The DNR has received the signs from the design group 106 and will be installing the new signs in the coming weeks. (see article below for more details)
The 25th Anniversary celebration details have been finalized and the Minnesota DNR has been assisting with promotional material that each of the towns will be able to use. Brochures and 2 large outdoor signs will be given to each Trail Town to utilize as they would like.
25th Anniversary of the ROOT RIVER BIKE TRAIL
The 8 communities that line the Root River Bike Trail have been working to put together a memorable celebration - starting with an Ice Cream Social in Lanesboro on Friday night and ending with an outdoor Church service in Houston. During the weekend of Sept 16th thru Sept 18th, there will be a wide variety of events in each of these terrific towns that connect the Root River Bike Trail. an EXPERIENCE of TASTE
Come and enjoy a new event sponsored by the Rushford Area Chamber of Commerce ~ ExpoCulinaria is slated for September 17th from 5 pm to 8 pm at the renovated Hoiland Mill in Rushford.
This event will be a quite a treat for everyone who is intrigued with new culinary experiences. Area businesses will be showcasing their culinary talents and the jazz band, Swing, Inc will enhance the evening for the auditory sense of each of the guests.
The feature presentation will be the Chef Competition - "Bring it to the Table". Two seasoned Minnesota chef's will create a 3 course meal for judges, who will declare the winner of this competition. The real challenge for these chef's is in NOT KNOWING what ingredients they will be working with to create these meals until they start at 6 pm. Think "Iron Chef" comes to bluff country!! One lucky guest will be able to purchase the winning plate at the Auction at 7:15 pm.
As a guest you will also enjoy a sampling of wines and beers that are to sure to enhance the taste buds excitement. Don't forget to try out the chocolate fountain too!

NEW BIKE TRAIL SIGNS - FINALLY!
The new trail signs that were due in June are now ready to be put in place. The trail head locations in each of the towns along the Root River Trail will start to see some very new and modern signage at their front doors. The color palette will be soft greens and blues with a hint of earth colors - for the fashion concious bike riders! Seriously, the design and construction are an improvement, not only visually but also the information and maps will be easier to read for travelers.
