Congratulations to the 65 customers who accepted our invitation to sample chocolate covered grasshoppers on March 19th as part of our St. Urho's Day celebrations.  

  

Finns in the area celebrate St. Urho's Day because he's credited for driving the grasshoppers out of Finland's vineyards and saving their grape crops.  

  

We now know that it is just a fun excuse to wear purple and green, parade around the block with other revellers, and head to the Finlandia club for an afternoon of refreshments, food and entertainment. 

  

With winters hanging on like they do can you blame them?  The only thing crazier would be not to join them in their celebration.

  

Count us in for next year too!

Join our Lole Spring Event April 14

At Take A Hike we've always believed that we can make a difference in helping protect the environment.  In recognition of this on-going commitment we received Thunder Bay's 2008 Municipal Green Award and were featured in an industry video about green products. 

  

  

With Earth Day 2011 being celebrated on April 22nd we're kicking it up a notch and hosting Earth Week.

  

Between April 18th and 23rd you can SAVE 20% on many of our green products including Fresh Wave air neutralizer, Envirosax re-usable shopping bags, stainless steel baby bottles, E-Cloth cleaning cloths and Klean Kanteen water bottles.  

  

We also stock many other earth-friendly products such as Aventura clothing made from organic cotton, Guatz t-shirts made from bamboo, Vaude backpacks and handbags made of recycled pop bottles and pet waste bags made from cornstarch. We'll mark these products with green ribbons so you can easily spot them.

  

Although our store uses oxo-biodegradable shopping bags, we'd like to recognize your efforts for not using one at all. So during Earth week we'll donate 10 cents in support of Eco-Superior environmental programs if you don't use a store bag for your purchases.

   

Many small actions together will make a big difference.

Just a reminder that we have many great gift ideas for the Easter Bunny, children's birthday parties and Grandma and Grandpa visits.

On May 6th the Reel Paddling Film Festival comes to Thunder Bay.  The festival showcases some of the best canoe and kayak films of the year.  It all takes place at the DaVinci Centre (Arthur & Waterloo) starting at 7:00 pm. 

  

Tickets are available at Take A Hike and are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.  Profits from this event go in support of the Thunder Bay division of Scouts Canada.
