Although the number of AAIDD members in Texas usually varies over the course of the year, the average has been around 200 for several years now. However, as of the 1st of February the number was 175 (nationally around 3,500). Much higher numbers were reported in previous decades, but there has been a general decline in membership in professional associations nationally. Economic problems have played a major role, but the trend of younger professionals not joining associations has also had an impact. AAIDD has made a concerted effort to reach out to this group. ...
