New Study by GEO and TCC Group Reveals Important Trends in Grantmaking

Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) announced the release of a comprehensive study of philanthropic practices in the United States. Conducted by TCC Group, this national survey identified and examined those trends in grantmaking that have the greatest GEO Cover finaleffect on nonprofit success.

Mining rich data from over 750 grantmakers across the country and comparing the results to earlier GEO studies from 2008 and 2003, TCC unearthed a number of interesting patterns. Associate Director PeiYao Chen found that "despite the recent economic downturn, more than half of all foundations increased or maintained their grantmaking dollars during the past two years." In addition, the more a foundation actively listens to and learns with grantees, the more likely it is to provide the types of grants that help nonprofits achieve greater impact, such as multi-year, general operating, and capacity-building support. Grantmakers can use these and other findings as benchmarking tools to identify areas for improvement and measure progress. Visit GEO's website to read the report and learn more.
