Sustaining the Arts  

According to  a  recent TCC Group study, nonprofits that participated in the Oregon Arts Commission initiative, Sustaining Oregon's Arts, saw significant gains in  their organizational effectiveness.  Between 2008 and 2011, TCC helped design, manage, and implement the initiative, and provided workshops, webinars, annual convenings, and peer exchanges that organizations could participate in free of charge.  Read more here.

From Strategic Planning to Innovative Business Plans

On November 17, Senior Partner and Director of Client Services Paul Connolly joins Kim Mazzuca, President of 10,000 Degrees, at the Foundation Center in San Francisco. What Philanthropy Can Learn from MoneyballPaul Connolly
Paul Connolly's blog for the Stanford Social Innovation Review highlights the importance of balancing a data-driven approach to philanthropy with a humanistic style of grantmaking. Paul argues that, in philanthropy, an approach that is overly rational or oriented around numbers and accountability can backfire when inclusivity, responsiveness, and improvisation are overlooked.

Maximizing Family Engagement in Philanthropy

Ashley BlanchardAs the author of "Strategic Philanthropy: Maximizing Family Engagement and Social Impact," Associate Director of Philanthropy Ashley Blanchard recently presented a workshop with Paul Connolly at the Grantmakers of Oregon and Southwest Washington's Family Foundation Learning Summit in Portland. 

 

The session focused on how family foundation leaders can  strike a balance between proactive and responsive approaches to grantmaking. She also shared advice  on how to increase both social impact and family unity by working together to identify shared values, develop a cohesive and focused plan, and continually learn and refine strategy.
