Welcome to New Executive Director Margaret Henningsen!

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Margaret Henningsen, our new Executive Director. Margaret was selected by our Board of Directors following a nationwide search and is the second executive director since the Women's Fund became an independent entity in 2006.

Margaret has been part of the Women's Fund community since 1999 during which time she served as Chair of the Board of Directors, and as an active member of the Social Change Grants Advisory and Board Development Committees. Over the years, Margaret had served on more than two dozen boards throughout the Milwaukee community.

Most recently Margaret served as Executive Vice President of Legacy Bancorp, Inc./Legacy Bank, which she co-founded in 1997.

Margaret says, "I'm passionate about the Women's Fund mission and am so pleased to be able to continue my lifelong commitment to improving the lives of women and girls in Greater Milwaukee."

We're pleased, too - glad you're here, Margaret.

Women's Fund Support Essential to Changing the Future for Women and Girls

"When I came to Meta House I was 38 years old, but I felt like I was 15. I was pregnant and I had two kids that I had left behind because of the grips of addiction. I didn't know how to be a mother. I remember one of the counselors who said, 'Recess is over. It's time to grow up.'" Pam Gonzalez's incredible story of recovery is captured in a video that became an integral element of the Women's Advocacy Project at Meta House. The project works to reduce the stigma associated with women with substance use disorders by challenging the common, harmful belief that women who abuse substances are morally weak or deficient.

Pam's daughter says "Meta House brought back the woman she wanted to be...I am most grateful that they showed my mom how to be a real mom." Pam is now involved in the daily life of all three of her daughters, ensuring that they have a better future.

Meta House received a 2011 grant from the Women's Fund to support their Women's Advocacy Program. This is just one example of how our grant partners provide women-led solutions to critical community issues.

As we celebrate 25 years in Milwaukee, we have set a goal to increase our grantmaking by 25%. With your continued financial support, and the support of others, our pooled resources will have even more impact on programs that create lasting social change in our community. Donate today!

2011-2012 Social Change Preliminary Grant Application Process Now Open!

The Women's Fund social change grantmaking program awards grants (typically up to $10,000) to nonprofits doing the best social change work in the Milwaukee area in our strategic funding areas.

We are a social change grantmaker seeking to create a world that is just and fair. Proposals need to address one of the Women's Fund's strategic funding areas - economic justice, social justice, or leadership development - and must have social change and gender impact.
