25th Anniversary Banner

In 1986, a world-wide movement was blossoming. It was becoming clear that to achieve a truly just and fair society, women would need to start using their growing philanthropic power to invest in one another.

With that inspiration a small, determined group of local women came together to launch the Women's Fund of Greater Milwaukee and became part of the international women's funding movement.

While much has been accomplished in this time, we have many miles to go before all women and girls share fully in the rights and responsibilities of our community.

On March 31st, celebrate 25 years with us as we renew our commitment to creating a world that is just and fair for all.

Join us in Celebrating International Women's Day

This event is just one of thousands taking place around the world on Tuesday, March 8 in celebration of the achievements women have made in the past 100 years.

We'll celebrate with the opening of Mystique: Views of the Feminine, an exhibit of women's art hosted by our Grant Partner, the Grand Avenue Club. A list of exhibitors can be found at our website.

Inspired by women's hopes for "bread and roses, too" we will dine on a banquet of breads and baked goods from a diverse array of ethnic and regional traditions, including Irish soda bread, Scandinavian yula kaka, home-baked challah, sweet potato pie, Italian focaccia and more!

Talking about the Black Infant Mortality Crisis in Milwaukee

We are thrilled that Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has decided to devote the next year to covering Milwaukee's Black Infant Mortality Crisis.

As you know, this is one of the key issues the Women's Fund began formally addressing last year as part of a new coalition - the Milwaukee Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families (LIHF).

Because this is a societal and community issue, we believe that everyone needs to be a part of the conversation. We encourage you to follow the Journal's blog on the issue, Empty Cradles, and to read the periodic pieces in the paper. On our blog, we will continue to provide our perspective, keep you informed about the work we're doing with our partner organizations, and offer opportunities to get involved in turning this crisis around.
