| Tax Incentives for New Hires Made in 2010 The HIRE Act is providing two different tax incentives to qualifying businesses that hired a new employee who had not worked for more than 40 hours in the past 60 days. First, employers are exempt from their 6.2 percent share of social security tax on wages paid to new hires. Second, there is a credit of up to $1,000 for a newly hired employee that stayed with your business for at least a year once they were hired, this usually applies to the 2011 tax year. In order to qualify for this tax exemption, the employee must have been hired between Feb. 3rd, 2010 and Jan. 1 2011. To find out more, visit here.
Though the HIRE Act expired as of the new year, there is legislation being created to extend the act. Keep close attention to the extension of this act when considering hiring a new employee. |
