BRE&D News
New Member at BRE&D
In addition to our new newsletter, the EDA has gained a new Americorps VISTA. We are happy to have him bring his new ideas and energy to our organization. We have invited him to share a little about himself:

My name is Monty Jarecke and I will be working to develop the Wyoming County Strategic Plan, the BRE&D project, and Wyoming County Community Fund. I am originally from Southern California where I graduated from U.C.L.A. with a degree in Political Science and later Business Administration. While in school I focused on the economies and governments of developing countries. My interest is in economic development on a global level and I'm hoping that my time in Wyoming County will allow me to enrich my understanding from a real world perspective. Though I'm from California my grandfather taught at W.V.U where he raised my dad, so I have always felt connected to this state. So far I have found the area to be very scenic and welcoming, I am very excited about my year here. If you would like to get in touch with me, you can email me at jarecke.monty@gmail.com or call (304) 732-6707.

Tax Cuts for Business Equipment Fails to Pass
The 2010 West Virginia state legislative session ended March 12th on a low note for Gov. Manchin and his bid to amend the state Constitution to reduce or eliminate property taxes on business equipment. The Governor's officials had argued that this form of tax cut was the best tax policy available to stimulate economic development. Much of the reason for the bill's demise was due to how heavily reliant counties and schools are on property tax revenue. Full Article
