Iran on Obama-Hu agenda as nuclear summit looms

President Barack Obama will seek to build momentum with China in his push for sanctions on Iran as world leaders assemble in Washington on Monday for an unprecedented nuclear security summit.
Obama will hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao before hosting high-level delegations from nearly 50 countries for the opening of the global conference, where the focus will be on how to prevent nuclear terrorism.
In the one-on-one meeting with Hu, Obama hopes to cement China's commitment to help ratchet up pressure on Iran over its nuclear program after Beijing agreed to join serious talks about possible new U.N. sanctions on Tehran.

Tortured prisoner Behrooz Javid Tehrani on ninth day of hunger strike

Political prisoner Behrooz Javid Tehrani is on his ninth day of hunger strike to protest  his transfer to solitary confinement [in Gohardasht prison] and the suffering inhuman treatments he endures in there. Behrooz Javid Tehrani is the sole political prisoner in detention who was [first] detained in the July 1999 student uprising (Behrooz was arrested on July 9, 1999).
He has been on hunger since March 31, 2010. Reportedly his physical condition is in critical shape.

Iranian businessman under suspicion for violation of UN sanctions

An Iranian businessman in the northern Swedish town of Umeň is currently under suspicion for violating UN sanctions against Iran by transferring large sums of money from Iran to various companies around the world. The companies in turn exported banned products to Iran. It is suspected that the products may have included parts required for an Iranian nuclear arms program.

1,000 women in Camp Ashraf under siege

..Following the latest political developments in Iraq, and the Iranian regime and its proxy's severe setback in the recent elections, threats against Ashraf residents are on the rise. The Iranian regime is furiously trying to take back the momentum of establishing the next government, gained by democratic and nationalistic forces, and maintain its dominating influence in Iraq. Due to the Iraqi people's wide ranging resistance to the Iranian regime's interference in their country, odds of such a plan are very slim. , threats against Ashraf residents, before the formation of a new government by nationalists and anti-Iranian regime forces, have raised international concerns. Many human rights organizations around the world, European and N. American MPs have insisted on these worries regarding the residents of Ashraf. Along with the majority of parliamentarians in the UK, Norway and Finland, the majority of the US Congress, in Resolution 704, with 230 sponsored to this day, have called on President Obama and the UN to play a more effective role in protecting Ashraf residents. Any hesitation and wavering by the US administration and the UN, in acting more decisively regarding the protection of Ashraf residents, will result in a human catastrophe in this camp.

We invite you to write to your national government officials to ask them to freeze all commercial and diplomatic ties with the Iranian regime until there is a full stop to repression of protests in Iran, release of political prisoners and respect for human rights as demanded in the recent UN Human Rights Council session.
