Team News
Dear BUSC Families,

Despite a very wet season with cancelled games and cancelled practices BUSC teams are working hard and having fun.  As a parent, the fact that my son is having fun and loving soccer, makes fighting with all of the mud stains on socks, shorts & shirts slightly less maddening!

We have had a very busy start to the season and are pleased to announce some new members to our BUSC Board.  We welcome Hung Do as our Tournament Chairman and Dave Marston as our Fields & Equipment Chairman.  Both bring their vast experiences and great ideas to the Board and we thank them for volunteering!

This fall we have 429 players registered for our 32 teams and have added additional teams for a few age groups!  We are growing and are excited about all that BUSC can become and all that BUSC can offer to our families. Thanks to all of you for your continued involvement with BUSC and your dedication to your children, their teams & their coaches.  As an organization built on the strength of our volunteers, BUSC's success is a testament to all of you!

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any newsworthy events that you would like to have published in our next BUSC Buzz. buckinghamunitedsoccer@gmail.com

Thanks,
Kelly Tait
Marketing & Communications Chair BUSC

Elections

New This Season
Message from Ryan Hayward, BUSC Director of Coaching

As the new DOC, I am looking forward to helping the club improve and grow into one of the best community based clubs in PA.   Drawing on years of experience playing at a community club, and coaching youth soccer for over 10 years, I am confident that I can accomplish these goals in a short period of time.  The club is already starting in a great place, and has a tremendous foundation for quick improvement.  With the introduction of new programs at the youth levels, and support for an already great coaching staff with the existing teams, we are already making great progress.  I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of BUSC, and look forward to being here for the long run.

Youth Academy:

Starting this Fall, we have introduced 2 great new programs for U7/U8 boys and girls players.  These programs are designed for existing intramural players that simply want to play more soccer, and participate in a positive and developmental soccer environment.  Both programs meet once a week to participate in small-sided exercises and games, directed by some of the most accomplished youth soccer coaches in the community.  Additionally, the U8 Academy will participate in 4 Fall Festivals, where the players will play 5v5 small-sided soccer games against some of the of the areas clubs, like CRUSA, UMNSC, and the Ukrainian Nationals.  Plans for Winter and Spring Academies are also in the works, and information will be available shortly.  Check out our Academy website for more information.

Goalkeeper Clinics:

This Fall, BUSC will be offering 3 GK clinics, specifically designed to address the needs of the most specialized position on the field, the goalkeeper.  Open to all BUSC GK's (U8 to U16), these clinics are designed to educate players, parents and coaches, and build solid fundamentals for the youth GK.  These are not designed as training sessions, but a fun learning environment, that answers many of the questions coaches and players have about the goalkeeper position.  Parents and coaches are encouraged to watch and take part in the sessions, so the information can be reinforced in their natural team training environment.  Topics discussed at these sessions will include: basic handling, diving, distribution, decision making, the GK as a field player, and higher level topics.  Our next clinic will be held on October 23, 2011 from 9-11 at Midway Fields.

Team News
U9 Boys - Dragons

After a couple early season losses, the Dragons won their first ICSL game against a very good Upper Moreland team. Sajan Shah scored our first goal of the season in a tough fought match. Defense was strong and goaltending key as Dragon's win 1-0.  The Dragons also played very well, placing 3rd in their division, at the Hunter Jack Walsh Columbus Day Tournament. This was the Dragon's first ever tournament as team.

 U10 Boys - Strikers

The Strikers, led by coach Steve Maund, started their season off with winning the Branchburg Labor Day Tournament. They were the only undefeated U-10 team. They scored 20 goals and let in only 3 goals during game play. The regular season has been just as exciting simply by playing for the first time in the DELCO Division 1. The competition has been great and the boys are playing hard with a record of 3-0-1. Most recently the boys won their age group in the Dale Marsh Fall Festival in the Poconos, scoring 29 goals.  Each boy on the team has scored at least one goal for the Strikers this year and they are all getting lots of experience playing different positions.

U11 Girls - Banshees

The Banshees are the Champions of the U-11F  2011 George Pratt Memorial Soccer Tournament in Cape May NJ. The 8v8 team arrived at the 11v11 championship game with no subs and played strong in all positions.  The game went into overtime with no score and headed into penalty kicks to decide the winner. The team overcame the pressure, and with accurate striking and great saves, won the exciting matchup 3-1!!   Congratulations Banshees!!

U13 Boys - Vipers

The Vipers wrapped up a successful 2010/2011season in DELCO Div. 2. The Vipers indoor season produced 2 championship teams - They played in both the U12 and U13 boys division at SMG.

With their expanded roster for 2011/2012, the Vipers are excited for this Fall season. They are coached by Bill Griffith, Mark Ullmann and Arash Shahideh...3 coaches who understand the game and have a true passion for the sport and developing the power of the game in their players. One of their goals is for the kids to appreciate - "It's the way you feel when you step on the field that lets you know you couldn't live without soccer!" The Vipers are becoming a group that feels...the greatest feeling is when you are on the soccer field and you know that your team is going to succeed because you look around and you see your 10 best friends playing beside you!" Stay tunedfor their success in the Fall season!

Heat 2011

Congratulations to BUSC Heat player Katie Dolf who was the 2011 recipient of the Most Spirited Athlete award, at the Ross/Haney soccer tournament, held Labor Day weekend. The Philadelphia Soccer Club changed the name of this annual tournament to honor the memory of two of its members who died at young ages. The Ross family honors Eric Ross as they selected a U-8 boy. In memory of Kristen Haney, a U-14 girl was chosen by the Haney family. These two players are selected for being the most spirited athlete during their respective championship games. In addition to the plaque that was presented to Katie, her name will be added to a list of past recipients on a trophy honoring Kristen. "It was a privilege to meet Kristen's family and to receive this award. Meeting her family has given me a new perspective of this tournament," said goalkeeper Katie. Eric's and Kristen's memories will continue to live on through this tournament and these awards.
