Spring greetings to all of our CBAA members!
We have emerged from the winter activities of indoor basketball gyms, Lacrosse and soccer Fields and ready to take it outdoors!
Thank you to all of the players, parents & coaches for the generosity of time, talents and dedication. CBAA is an organization that has grown tremendously over the years and is very proud of our dedicated volunteers that helped us achieve this success.
This has been a very active year for us. The basketball season has just ended with our own CBAA March Madness! Over the cold winter, we finally came to an agreement on the lighting at Herbst. Members showed up to Township meetings and spoke from the heart about our clubs within CBAA and it provides to their families and our community. We will start by lighting the basketball courts to allow for a little extra time for the successful and popular summer league.
Looking ahead this Spring, we have Club night at the Linclon Financial for the Philadelphia Union-vs- FC DallasMay 15. Information and tickets for this event will be released soon. We're also excited again to announce that the "World Cup" is coming to Herbst June 12th.
Another popular event is the CBAA Casino Night 2010 is in the early planning stages! This will be our 4th annual! The date is being finalized for a weekend in November. Donna Destefano is once again at the helm organizing this great event! If you'd like more information or would like to be a part of this fun and successful committee please email Donna!
We look forward to working closely with our many community partners in the school district and Buckingham, Doylestown and Plumstead Township.
As we continue to grow, we know how important it is to listen to our membership. If you have a suggestion or would like to give feedback, please email us! CBAA Board meetings are also open to the public.
Have a Great Spring and enjoy the newsletter!

Basketball
Like the US Postal Service Carriers, the 2009/2010 CBAA
Basketball season went on despite several snow cancellations, rain, wind, sleet
and lost of power at the gyms. It was a great season. One that saw over 1400
players participate in our winter program. The season officially ended on Sunday, March 28th
with the Intramural League Championship at Tohickon Middle School. Our 21 Travel Teams also had a great year. The teams were
competitive and one numerous tournaments and won numerous league championships.
Congratulations to Coach Mike Reilly and the 9th Grade Boys Travel
Team and Coach Suzanne Lahetta's Girls 7th Grade Team. Both won the
ICBA Travel League Championships. Reaching the championship round and coming on
hr short end but still having great seasons were Coach Gary Elias and 4th
Grade Boys as well as Coach Mike Traina and the 3rd Grade Boys.
Still to play in the championship round are Jim Reichwein and the Boys 5th
Grade Team as well as Ken Brown and the Girls 5th Grade Team. Good
luck to both teams!!!
But perhaps the biggest accomplishments of the Boys and
Girls of CBAA Basketball took place away from the CBSD Gyms. Our Coaches vs.
Cancer Fund Raiser on behalf of the American Cancer Society raised over $34,000
for cancer research. The fund raising event was lead by numerous current CBAA
Players and alums under the supervision of mentors Mike Reilly, Linda Webster
and many other CBAA volunteers.
CBAA would like to thank Johnson & Johnson for its support,
as well as many other members of the community who anonymously contributed, as
well as those who attended and purchased t-shirts and other items to help the
cause. We also would like to thank Mr. John Reading, AD at CB East, the
coaching staff and players of both the CB East Boys and Girls Team, CBSD
Facilities and Coach Doug West of Villanova. The Boys 5th Grade Team coached by Mr. Jim
Reichwein, their families and siblings also stepped off the court to team up
with the Twilight Wish Foundation to help grant the wishes of senior citizens
at a local Doylestown nursing home. The players sold The Wolfpack 5th Grade Team and the Twilight Wish Foundation helped grant the wishes of senior citizens | home baked cookies,
brownies, pretzels and other items at CBAA events and helped raised funds to
help with the purchase of a Wii Game System. They were also visited and spent
time with the senior citizens at the nursing home. Below is a picture of the
team accepting a certificate thanking them for their effort. Way to go!!! While the regular season may be over CBAA is still thinking
of our players. Spring Skills and Drills will take place again this year. The
CBAA Spring Skills and Drills offers boys and girls in 2nd, 3rd,
4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades an
opportunity to continue to sharpen their game. The sessions, which will be
posted on our web site soon, will start after the Easter Break. All CBAA
Players are welcome.
CBAA is a non for profit organization. All of our volunteers
are not compensated and as always we will not charge any child that attends our
Skills and Drills. Finally, it is time to think about the CBAA Summer League.
Registration is now available on our web site. Coaches can
register teams together and players can also register on their own. Please
visit our web sitefor additional information. Thank you and have a safe and fun spring and summer. THE CBAA BASKETBALL BOARD |

BUSC (Travel Soccer)
Buckingham United Soccer Club has just finished their winter indoor season and is now in full swing with EPYSA State Cups and various leagues. Spring is also a Tournament time! The March into Cups Tournament had to be postponed due to the incredible amount of rain and snow that we encountered. This year's tournament is being run by the U13 Hurricanes who are fund-raising to go to Germany this August. The rescheduled tournament will now be held June 5th and 6th. Each year the Coaches vote on an away club-wide tournament for the teams to attend overnight. The BUSC Coaches chose the Adidas Potomac in Maryland. The Tournament fee is paid by BUSC in exchange for the fundraising the teams accomplised for our BUSC tournament. Fall Tryouts for BUSCwill be in April and May. If you'd like information or would like to see the scheduled dates, click on our Tryout FAQ page. For any other questions, please email BUSC. BUSC has partnered with the Phila Union Soccer team this year. As part of our partnership program we have 8 season tickets and we can have 1 of our players be a ball lines person for the game. They receive a Union Shirt and have fun as Ball lines person for game. Kids must be 14 yrs or older. For the younger kid u9 and younger we can have one of our kids be a starting line up player escort. They will be fully outfitted with Union gear and escort one of the players on to the field as part of the pre-game starting ceremony.
If interested in future tickets and field game participation opportunities contact Ed Beedle at ebeedle@spirax.com or 610. 659.1586. We can get additional tickets as well... so if you wanted to go as a team or just a larger group just let Ed know and he will help arrange.

Intramural Soccer
CBAA IM Program: Spring Season Kick- Off EventsThe CBAA IM (recreational) program plans to shake off the
winter blues and kick off the spring season with some winter clinics during the
month of March. At the time of going to press the Senior Division clinics had begun firstly with a coaches get
together which included a goalkeeper clinic, several team based drills and a
fun and very lively pick-up game! It was great to see coaches' actively
participating in a game situation and it certainly helps to gain an
understanding of how hard the kids work out there on the field. The coaches' clinic was followed by three senior division
player clinics where the older players worked on skills and game related
activities with some of their coaches in attendance observing the action and
helping with the activities. These sessions were not team related they were age
group based where players from different teams helped each other in the area of
skill development. Players are never too old to learn new skills and the clinics
were lively and productive - nice job everyone! We hope to see even more Senior Divisioncoaches and players at any future
clinics that might be scheduled. The Junior
Divisionplayers are scheduled to participate in fun soccer festivals
prior to the start of the season - weather and field conditions permitting.
These festivals are also age group (not team) based and will combine skill
development activities with the small sided games that teams will play during
the season. This will also be an opportunity for all team coaches to get
involved in the activities, work with the Smart Soccer staff and help make the
festivals a big success. As always we would like to offer a BIG thank-you to all the
volunteer parent coaches who give their time to help the children learn skills
and enjoy the game of soccer. Your efforts are always appreciated. Neil Smart ------------------------------------------------------- Small Sided Games (SSG's)A greater focus is being placed on SSG's as a player
development tool particularly at the four youngest divisions but coaches of
older teams are also urged to include SSG's in their practice plans. They are
fun, the players are more involved in the game have more touches on the ball
and full participation is encouraged as opposed to players restricted in
movement due to rigid positional responsibilities. It is possible to write a
book on the benefits of SSG's (some people have!) and we encourage coaches to
fully support this philosophy as an essential approach to developing more
skilled players. Byte Size Coaching The club website has an amazing resource for coaches who
need practice ideas simply log on to the Byte Size Coaching link and print age
appropriate activities for your team practices. There is also some great
information on coaching philosophy and a monthly newsletter. Password details
will be e-mailed to coaches. 2010 CBAA Smart Soccer CampThe 20 year soccer camp partnership between CBAA and Smart
Soccer continues this summer with a professionally run soccer camp during the
weeks of June 28-July 2 and July 19-23. Campers may attend one or both weeks. Please
visit the CBAA club website or www.SmartSoccer.com
for a camp application. Contact Neil Smartat smartsoccer@msn.com
if you have any questions on the camp.
