Market Volatility and Your Emotions

As we all know, swings in the market happen, and they are not always going to produce a positive return.  How we mutually react to these corrections is critical in maintaining your investment strategy.  Staying the course and not letting emotion influence your decisions is not an easy choice, but most of the time it's the right one.

Our Wealth Management Group is available to discuss your portfolio and how the recent events have impacted it.  Please don't hesitate to call them with your questions or concerns at 810.245-2935.

Stolen Wallet?  Act Fast!

If you have ever had your wallet or purse stolen, then you know the queasy and panicked feeling that follows.

Having your wallet or purse stolen is traumatic and hopefully it won't happen to you.  But if it does, every minute counts.  Being prepared is the best defense in minimizing potential losses.

While everything is safely in your possession, make photo copies of both sides of all your cards (or make a list of your account numbers and toll free telephone numbers to reach customer service for each card).  Keep this information in a safe place, locked file cabinet or safe deposit box, and update this information periodically.  In addition to credit cards, remember to keep track of any insurance, identification, or club cards that have your information on them.  Never keep your Social Security number in your wallet or purse.

Take Action Checklist

If your wallet or purse is lost or stolen, you will need to immediately:

  • File a police report.
  • Cancel your credit, debit and ATM cards.  (Your LCBT ATM or Debit card can be disabled using your Online Banking account)
  • Notify Lapeer County Bank & Trust Co. so we can issue you new account numbers and stop payment on any checks, if necessary.
  • Contact the three credit reporting agencies:
    • Equifax 1.800.525-6285
    • Experian 1.800.397-3742
    • TransUnion 1.800.680-7289
  • Alert the department of motor vehicles if your driver's license was stolen.
  • Notify your utility companies that someone may try to get new service using your information.
  • Change the locks on your home and car if your keys were stolen.

As you notify the proper parties about the loss, be sure to keep a log of all conversations.  Request written vertification that accounts have been closed and keep copies of all documentation that you send or receive.  Make sure any replacement cards you receive have new account numbers.  Review your credit reports regularly and have them corrected, if necessary.
