Disaster Recovery
A disaster can strike at any time, in many forms. Whether the emergency is a flood, tornado, fire, theft, or a hard drive that crashes, businesses and organizations, large or small, need to have a Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan in place. Ready.gov is a great resource to help you through the planning process. They offer a Business Continuity & Disaster Preparedness Plan form you can fill out online to assist you in creating your own plan for crisis management. Things to consider when planning: - What type of disasters would impact your business?
- Who will be in charge?
- How will you contact employees and who will report in?
- What are your critical operations?
- List of suppliers and contractors with contact information.
- Alternate site to run your business from.
- How will you back up your files?
- Where will you store the file copies?
There are not many businesses that can afford to be closed after a disaster. Creating a Business Continuity & Disaster Preparedness Plan and reviewing it annually can significantly reduce your losses if ever you are hit by disaster. |

Special Alert-Fraudulent Email
The FDIC has received numerous reports of a fraudulent email that has the appearance of being sent from the FDIC. The email appears to be sent from "alert@fdic.gov" and includes a subject line that states: "FDIC: Your business account." The email is addressed to "Business Owners" and states "We have important information about your bank. Please click here to see information." It then states, "This includes information on the acquiring bank (if applicable), how your accounts and loans are affected, and how vendors can file claims against the receivership."
This email and link should be considered an attempt to collect personal or confidential information, or to load malicious software onto your computer. Do not click on the link provided. The FDIC has repeatedly said that it does not issue unsolicited emails to consmers or business account holders.

Just for Fun
Getting Your Money's Worth- Half Life of Currency
How long do bills last? A US $1 bill or a $10 bill last for an average of eighteen months. Five dollar bills last around fifteen months, and twenties kick around for two years. The larger denomination bills can last up to eight years.
Good thing that the average coin lasts for 25 years, since new pennies cost over 1.67 cents each to make.
The average bill is meant to take up to 4000 folds in each direction before it rips. Why's it so strong? Currency paper is 25% linen, making it rip-resistant.
95% of the bills are printed just to replace damaged ones that had to be taken out of circulation. In 2007, 45.5% of the notes printed were $1 notes, since those ones get used and degraded most quickly. |
