Farmers Market: Fruit and Rubber Ducks

Fay's Farm ProduceThis week, the booming Haverhill Farmers Market will add fresh peaches and apples from Haverhill's own Fay's Farm. Now featuring wine, guacamole and salsa, baked goods, fresh caught fish, crafts and music, along with terrific local vegetables, the Farmers Market is thriving in its grassy, off-the-street location next to the police station on Bailey Boulevard. Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. And mark your calendar now for the Harvest Festival on Oct 15. Info.

Rubber Duck Race
And--there is still time to adopt a duck (or a Quack Pack) for the Rotary Club Duck Race. Sign up at the Farmers Market from 9 to 11 am--papers must then be delivered to the race site for a 1 pm duck drop! Every duck adopted at the market earns the Farmers Market a $1 donation! You could win a car, Red Sox Tickets, golf outings and more, and support local charities.
Rail Trail Grand Opening Sept 24

The grand opening of Bradford Rail Trail, Phase I, starts at 11:30 am on September 24 (Climate Change Awareness Day: See info on 350.org) The UU Church of Haverhill will host a bike ride, led by Mayor Fiorentini, from the trail opening to the National Grid Solar Farm on Hilldale Ave. Riders or walkers of any age may assemble behind the Roma restaurant & Ace Hardware (29 Middlesex St). At 11:30, the "parade" will roll up the new trail, over the Comeau Bridge, past Krueger Flatbread, and through Lafayette Square to the array on Hilldale (about 2 miles). After a tour at noon, riders will return to the trail. Donations for future trail development are now being received at www.bradfordrailtrail.org.
River Ruckus Highlights

Past favorites and new hits marked the 2011 River Ruckus on August 20. The Classic Car Show on Washington St, and the the evening concert by the USAF Liberty Jazz Band were top attractions once again, but were accompanied this year by pontoon boat rides, expanded children's activities and craft market, crooner Brian Evans, and a spectacular fireworks finale on the river. Many thanks to volunteers, vendors, and sponsors, especially NMTW Credit Union, Haverhill Bank, and Pentucket Bank.
Weitzman Visits, Community Paints

Stuart Weitzman Portrait

A lively crowd filled 90 Washington Street on August 18 for a visit from mural artist James Shuster and Haverhill-raised shoe designer Stuart Weitzman. Shuster invited Weitzman and his daughter to "make their mark" on the Essex Street Gateway Mural--by painting a panel containing Weitzman's own image. Weitzman's visit, plus the community paint session at River Ruckus the following Saturday, marked the end of the communty-painting phase of the project. Studio work continues at MLS Studios in Philadelphia, in preparation for the return of Meg Saligman and James Shuster to paint the wall next Spring. Info And..watch for a new spring date for our Wizard of Oz auction gala.
